Among other things the City's mothers and fathers don't 'get' is that they are suppose to working for our best interests, not theirs. Until further notice----one term in office=one term in the big house.

No billboards on the Parkway. Doesn't fit at all with that leafy area imo. Market East is much better although I don't really get what it adds to the city anyway. No city is being held back from reaching the elusive world-class status because there is no big flashy sign district.

I want to make something clear: I have no problem with billboards on Market east or other commercial areas, but big advertisements (even if its just banners) on government buildings right next to City Hall will give the impression that Philadelphia is so poor and desperate for cash that they are willing to give up anything for a quick buck. None of the cities mentioned above have ads next to their seats of government (at least to my knowledge)....

Is our "Times Square" going to be South Broad, Love Park area, or Market East? I think South Broad is a horrible idea. Those buildings are beautiful and it has its own ambiance anyway. I am actually responding to the photographic images you provided. Strangely, there is no response link.

Some future génération will see there are beautiful buildings beneath those flashing lights.

I have noticed many youth are fascinated with edison bulbs. My offspring, included. "How about if you put a réal lightbulb in that lamp so we can see?" I suspect they are reacting to technology innundation. Perhaps, they are becoming bored with flash.

There's a big difference between a concentrated area of electronic billboards (like Times Square) and billboards plastered randomly and spread out. That was supposed to be accomplished along East Market but the city bungled that and is now looking to "spread the love" which will end up looking idiotic.

Temple Campuses

Seriously, I bring this up again because WTF. I just drove up Broad Street yesterday through Temple main campus and Temple Hospital Campus - who the hell approved for Temple to demolish all of these buildings along Broad to leave empty lots with no immediate plans to building ANYTHING?

Broad & Master - old school completely demolished and just an empty grass lot facing Broad now.

Broad & Jefferson - huge empty lot between the historic mansion on the corner and the Rite Aid as Temple bought up all of these buildings and demolished them all with no immediate plans to replace them.

Broad & Montgomery - empty grass lot between Beasley Law School and Rock Hall has been there for years.

Broad & Norris - large empty grass lot. At least they are TRYING to build the stadium here.

Broad & Diamond - large empty grass lot where a MAB Paint used to be which Temple bought and demolished.

Broad & Ontario Southeast corner - large empty grass lot where there was once a building that was demolished several years ago.

Broad & Ontario Northwest corner - used to be a historic 7 story medical building which has since been demolished. I understand that there was a fire here that rendered it damaged beyond repair, but it is currently just sitting as an empty lot.

That's 7 empty lots. 2 have excuses I guess, but still 6 with no immediate plans for development.

Temple has decided it would rather have green space in the interim vs buildings they don't want on their campus. I don't think Temple brought anything near Broad and Jefferson- they already owned buildings there. Don't dont need approval to tear down buildings they own.
