Thanks for putting that in the Alberta section, any discussion in the Canada section would ultimately end up with everyone bashing the prairies!

One heater, 130% the energy usage of an entire Albertan household. Now, I realize that heaters will not be on the whole year & so on & so forth, but I just thought people should know the actual numbers behind these ideas to at least get people thinking.
Ah the beauty of math and stats...

You wanna argue about energy usage with me? By all means, come into my area of professional expertise. I literally spend my days researching, auditing & investigating energy consumption in Edmonton. As the kids once said, it's my jam.

Or you can keep rolling your eyes at me. Doesn't change facts.

Given your expertise, any comment on all the women at work with heaters under their desks instead of putting on a damn jacket?

It is a problem, yes.

On the other hand, that patio heater will use the same energy to heat as 2-hour meal as is in 3L of gasoline, and cost around 50c if it's natural gas. If it were gasoline that same energy would allow a 20km round trip to go meet for dinner. Which many of us do regularly without thinking.

I had the opposite problem for a few years at EPCOR Tower. As the issue deals with some of the fundamental physiological differences between the genders, along with age & body composition it will remain a topic I will provide zero insight on, tragically. That's one minefield even someone with an antagonistic bent like myself won't wade into.

The not thinking about the impact of our energy usage is one of the major contributors to why Alberta has the highest household energy usage in Canada. That was the primary reason for my little comparison, to give people some numbers to truly consider.

Sadly there are only a handful of people who do it, but they always seem to derail a perfectly good discussion.

And since no one wants to use the thread in the Alberta section, I'll just add, patio heaters are a waste of time and money. There is a perfectly good alternative, it's called a hoodie!

Coliseum Transformation

Open House - November 2016
The City is considering the Coliseum’s future as a sport and recreation facility. Northlands has proposed a six-sheet arena. Now we want your ideas to help us develop additional options for this Edmonton sports icon.

Date: Wednesday, November 16 and Thursday, November 17
Location: Multipurpose Room #6, Commonwealth Recreation Centre | 11000 Stadium Road
Time: 3-8pm

About the Project
The City is exploring options to transform the Coliseum into a community-based sport and recreation centre. The project will include defining community needs and priorities through public engagement, as well as exploring partnership opportunities. The project is currently in the Concept Phase, with a request to bring two to three options back to Council in April 2017.

The City is investigating options that will align with the 2017-27 Recreation Facility Master Plan and 10-year Arena Strategy.

Throughout 2015, Northlands engaged with a variety of stakeholders and consultants to prepare a new vision for its organization. The outcome was Vision 2020, which was presented to City Council in March 2016. The City's analysis of Northlands’ Vision 2020 resulted in a five-part Council motion to explore the future of Northlands. The Coliseum Transformation project is one part of this broader Northlands work.

Went by the rental house in Parkdale today to do some work, it's been a little while since I checked around the neighbourhood, lots going on

5 CRU retail development on 82st just north of 112th Ave is pouring footings

6 story mixed market project at 83st and 113ave pouring footings

4 story Redbrick apartment on 112ave & 85st at f & f. Clad all in corrugated metal. Looks hideous

4 story mixed use loft & commercial on 112th & 90st framing up the first floor

Land all cleared out on the lot where an 8 story mixed use is proposed on 112th just west of 82st

Really stunning looking 95th street medical centre just south of 112th is excavating.

Carmen Pervez's 5 unit flophouse on 86st and 112ave burnt down. Boo hoo.

Spotted three stacked duplex and one SfH u/c within a few blocks of my place just on my drive in.. Probably several more I didn't see

Bridge's Catering building on 112th & 90th given a very contemporary facelift that looks nice

All in all some very positive things going on in that neck of the woods

Is this the one that was pitched as groundbreaking & a portent of the future only to languish for years due to wholesale incompetence by the developer?

Sounds like we should see demo/site prep for Augustana Tower in December. Great news and such a killer location. Looking forward to some new folks in my hood and hopefully a new restaurant.

Long story?

Over-promised & under-delivered due to improper vetting & research done on the principle supplier by the neophyte developer.

Story over, everything else is noise, excuses & spin. It's completely inexcusable that they left that project in such a sorry state for so long.

I don't know the whole story, but the modular/prefab design that went forward was hung up by the supplier/manufacturer and put this one off the rails.
