The sad thing is I bet just a few Buzzfeed lists could make that objectively true.
Portugal is our only saving grace. My parents went there for their anniversary. They were blown away by how EVERYONE knew exactly where they were from, and loved them for it. I guess it makes sense, we know them too. One of the towns in our CMA is Portugal Cove. But they were still amazed.
And Ireland too, but not to the same extent. Ireland doesn't know us, but they interact with us especially intensely trying to place our accents. "Are ya from Wexford?" "No, St. John's." "Where?". "Newfoundland, off the east coast of Canada." "OH! New Foundland, yes!" I got a lot of that when I was there.
