Yeah, I'd pay $5-$10 just to go up there and check out the view.

this six-minute timelapse video, titled pano l.a., took joe capra two years to make—it "has been the most ambitious, challenging, demanding, and rewarding project i have worked on to date," he says.

The video will bring you all over the sprawling city, from the coastline to griffith park, to several downtown freeways, the broad, lacma, lax and amoeba music. You'll even get a visual of all that firework noise that takes over on the 4th of july.

To create the piece, capra used two synced dslr cameras, side-by-side, to capture the panoramic footage, which he delivered in vivid color. He told laist that the sparkling appearance came out when processing the raw images.

Here's an interesting survey of high net worth Chinese.
http://www.hurun.net/en/ArticleShow.aspx?nid=20886

According to the survey LA is the #1 preferred destination for foreign investment. Could have major implications for the continued growth of DTLA.

Maybe my terminology is incorrect, but those glass panels on Circa look more like an extension of the tower's cladding (in that small area where the tower extends all the way to the ground) than a curtain wall for the parking podium. You can see this in the rendering on Page 1 as well.

I know. I think most people here did too but now I'm not sure.

No, I think most people here know that is the only sliver of glass that will go down to the ground. The positive response is that if that's the glass that rises above on the tower, the general consensus is that it's higher quality curtain wall glass than people expected to see.

The growth in south park is nothing short of phenomenal. So it does look like the Onni towers are a go. And how tall are the Circa towers designed to be? They look to be more impressive than the renderings which is a rare thing.

I greatly appreciate your blog and all the work you put into it! You really do help keep the public informed.

Your site makes it much easier to learn about and understand changes to not just dt but to all of LA, including areas as far south as OC and as far north as the valley. Your blog is a first class act.

Even more grateful for the info you've provided tonight since that one parcel of land next to the fwy, south of the canvas apt bldg, has long bothered me. It ruins the appearance of a very visible section of dt seen by thousands of ppl who drive by there everyday. In fact, I was going by there just the other day...& wondered for the umpteenth time when someone & something would finally fill in that gap.

the other bit of helpful news, of course, is your giving us a peek into the planning process of the lucas museum. By so doing, you provide another hint of what's going on behind the scenes.

a person would have to be in a coma to not be amazed by what's occurring at this moment in time.

lucas is filing in both SF and LA simultaneously, so it's not necessarily clear that this will go ahead. though, knowing SF, i'd tend to bet on LA winning out

Man, those apartment complexes right on the freeway baffle me. Who would want to pay $2,000+ per month to breathe in freeway fumes and all but guarantee a better chance for developing cancer later in life?

Not just cancer, but also hardening of the arteries.

Study finds traffic pollution can speed hardening of arteries

http://articles.latimes.com/2010/feb/14/local/la-me-freeway-pollution14-2010feb14

Widespread adoption of electric vehicles and improved transit can't happen soon enough. I don't want to digress but when people complain about the cost of a certain transit investment, the healthcare costs of auto dependence, whether from the 35,000 annual fatalities from auto accidents, or the healthcare costs from emissions, are enormous. Think about this when deciding whether to vote for Measure M.

You can pretty much say the same thing about living in LA.

Unfortunately it looked like there was an injury at the Onni 49 story tower site. Hill street was closed, emergency vehicles were onsite and news crews were both overhead and arriving at the scene. Hopefully it wasn't serious but it looked like it was and it appeared that work would be shut down for the day as would usually be required for a serious incident.

According to the channel 4 news the worker was seriously injured by falling rebar. Hopefully he's ok.
