COP should be a magnet for residential tower development in the near future. If the Kaplan development does well then I could see several towers following it and the Post development. Who wouldn't want to live on a beautiful downtown urban park?

As of today, Mi Cocina in the bottom of 1010 is out of business. So now we have almost an entire block of prime Peachtree St retail space empty. Selig needs to get on this. Looks very bad.

It's not bad--the retail market in Midtown is doing just fine. Those higher-priced spaces on the PwC side will fill up as density increases. In the mean time, there are still half a dozen businesses on that block. I would hardly call that "empty."

That place was pretty good but damn was it expensive for what you got

I've heard from people in Dallas (where it's based and does very well), that had visited the Atlanta location and said it was not ran the same way the ones out here are and that the quality was lacking. I'm sure the fact that Tex Mex isn't as big of a part of the local cuisine in the Deep South probably has something to do with it as well. M Crowd Restaurant Group canceled their plans to expand their Taco Diner concept to Atlanta as well and I'm sure that has something to do with it.

When one has consistently bad service there - there was no incentive to ever go back.

Wow, I was just there on Friday night, and it was delicious. Also it was 75% full so sort of crowded.

Kind of surprised too. Everytime I walked by there in the evenings or nights, there are a lot of people eating at the outdoor seating area. The rents might just be too expensive.

It is a shame to have so many empty storefronts along the city's signature street. Then there is the vacant space in that Dewberry building (which formerly housed nightclubs) that'll remain empty for who knows how long because, you know... it's Do-Nothing.

I keep saying Midtown need to add more live entertainment and not focus entirely on retail. I think that's the final element of getting tourist and locals to support existing retail in the area on the daily basis.

Service was wildly inconsistent, but the food was good and imo actually a decent value. For $12 or so you could get a very good meal.

You've gotta wonder what rents are to make that development so difficult to succeed in. Max's Wine Dive, whatever that pizza place before Ribalta was. The area often feels like a cluster of overpriced, undermanaged out of town chains.

I totally agree. The nightlife here lacks a true pulse. Having different events here and there are cool. But it would be awesome to have a lively area that is bustling at night.

Nice! I had forgotten this project was going on. A lot of decent infill going in around Arts Center. I'm looking forward to the (hopefully) heavily increased pedestrian activity coming to Midtown. A lot more activity going on than a few years ago, but it often still feels quiet. I find the BeltLine significantly more active than any street in Atlanta. I guess that shouldn't be too much of a shock though, as green space and parks are essentially Atlanta's "beach", where people will want to visit.

iPic theater is rumored in Colony Square. Would be a huge win along with the proposed Apple store there.
