Forget the roof, fixing up the rest of the Olympic Stadium will cost taxpayers hundreds of millions of dollars.

Thursday night was dedicated to the budget for the Montreal area, so of course the Olympic Stadium was discussed.

The latest inspections by the Olympic Installations Board show the Stadium needs more than $280 million in renovations. That is up $60 million from last year.

Those costs don't even include any money for the roof, which experts tell the government is at the end of its life and can no longer be repaired.

The cost to replace the roof completely has been estimated to cost a minimum of $215 million.

The government has planned $213 million for repairs to the envelope of the stadium's tower and major renovations to the promenade, tourist hotspots in the Olympic Park and to the parking structure.

"Stadium" is an English word that is best pluralized according to English pluralization rules as "stadiums".

"Stadia" is not wrong, in my opinion, but it is rather affected. It would be the correct plural of "stadium" in the sense of the historic Greek measure of distance.

Fowler was of the view that there is no hard-and-fast rule about the pluralization of Latin borrowings, but noted that many Latinate plurals have gradually fallen into disuse. His conclusion was and remains correct, in my view -- "when one is really in doubt about which to use, the English form should be given the preference."

but blowing it up would involve sinking money into it.

also I don't think it can be blown up because of the subway running underneath it.

I think it would have to be taken apart piece by piece $$$$$$

When I say "blow it up", I don't really mean do a complete tear-down. I'm aware of the issues surrounding the stadium and other dependencies. Basically, I'm saying to bring it down to the lowest possible form so that it no longer resembles a stadium. Turn it into something that actually generates revenue for the city and is useful.

The amount of money spent on this stadium is absurd. Even with a packed house, the atmosphere for football, soccer and baseball is horrible. It's just not worth saving.
