Depuis 2015, Michel Dallaire a d'ailleurs passé beaucoup de temps aux États-Unis et s'est entouré de quelques firmes américaines pour bonifier son projet. Une attention particulière a été portée aux vents, tant pour minimiser leurs effets au niveau du sol que pour s'assurer de la stabilité des bâtiments.

« [Ce sont] des éléments dont on n'a pas conscience au Québec parce que ces grands bâtiments-là, il n'y en a pas, mais la force des vents sur les retenues latérales, le mouvement latéral d'un bâtiment, est très importante », explique M. Dallaire.

This is very interresting. I look forward to it. This skyscraper will need to be TOP NOTCH in matter of architecture. He will become the province of Quebec's first skyscraper after all and highest east of Toronto.

By FABG Architects, this 22-storey rental tower is to be build along the Lachine Canal in Griffintown. It's just been approve by the city. I like the pure design which reminds me a little, somehow, of the International style of the Mies Van der Rohe towers in Nun's Island.

I think he is referring to Miles' projects in Nuns Island.

I don't see the resemblance beyond the massing either and I can show you thousands of towers with that massing.

15th and 6th SW - 85 units - 15 storeys





Marriott Autograph Hotel - 304 rooms - 28 storeys - 100 meters





It will be great to have another large hotel in the central core, and to have another new 100 meter tower UC Apparently construction is imminent. This will be our second Marriott with over 300 rooms to start construction this year, and will be our fourth new hotel to start construction downtown in the last two years.

Never seen that tower at 15th and 6h before. Who's he developer and where'd you find it? Also looks like they got rid of the garish colours on the front of the Marriott. Looks better now. Thanks for posting these Chad.

I don't know who the developer is. I got the renders from a PDF link someone posted on the Calgary Construction Thread. 15th and 6th is alright, but it reminds me of Edmonton's highrise supermax prison AKA The Hendrix. I suspect the design is a result of the new national building code, and it won't be the last neo-brutalist design we see until developers can adapt. The redesign of the Marriott is certainly a lot better than what was previously proposed, and I'm glad that it looks like they gave special attention to the backside, as that is what most people will see (as viewed from Fourth Street Station). The front entrance is still quite garish but it's small and won't really be that noticeable compared to the tower itself, being a significant amount taller than the tower it abuts. All in all, it will be great to have another luxury hotel in the downtown core, and extra bonus points for them intending to start construction in the middle of an economic downturn.

Yup, it will be the end of pinning hopes on all-glass facades in the prairies. Oh well. Might be a call to do something interesting on those non-window surfaces.

Also, I love that stuff going up in Griffintown, it's very analogous to what's going on in Calgary's East Village, just with the EV being more focused on point-tower designs.
