- BUT that's the one where I've bought the most stuff - racks and racks of clearance stuff.

Saks Off 5th does have higher prices than other off-price retailers.
You have to buy stuff with their e-mail offers (40% off suits, buy one get one free, etc.) - but the e-mail offers are only valid in the USA.
The fine print says "not valid at Saks Off 5th Canada stores".
For me, I'll wait until I next go to the States.
the prices and brands were within my expectations here, my previous visit to the one in california brands like dockers and calvin klein didn't really meet the expectations of seeing fendi, prada, versace etc. that we were expecting lol not that we could afford it but we thought it would be higher end then what it was, at least the tswassen one was stocked with a lot of designer brands

that said i would never really buy anything anyway, i'm a 40% of the 50% off at gap kinda person

It's the third weekend since opening, so I figured the crowds would already be less to check this place out. Nope, parking was 75% full at Saturday 5pm and the place was busy. No problem with the traffic though and I don't understand how the place got gridlocked on the first weekend. The roadways seem very adequate to me.

The place itself was pretty nice and it is huge. Bass Pro Shop is definitely a destination and a must-see. I was impressed by both the bowling alley and the grand foyer. They are sure to attract families for a long time.

I was a bit disappointed by the art work, but generally the place felt pleasing once inside. Good array of stores IMO and several seemed to be new to the Lower Mainland.

I suppose people commenting that this place will be mainly for customers living south of Fraser are onto something. I took note of the significant number of East Asian and Indian people who I can only guess being largely from South Surrey. The demographics felt noticeable different from other shopping centers north of Fraser. Bus to the ferries was also busy, so I suppose there is some lure for folks from Vancouver Island as well.

I might see myself driving there few times a year. It's quite a long drive from Metrotown and shopping is aplenty much closer, but it is a bit different kind of shopping destination. I will post photos later.

I had the same observation on Thanksgiving Day. Lots of extended family groups were shopping together on the holiday.

Apparently the city of Delta is demanding that the BC government install an overpass over highway 17, as tons of people are cutting across the highway now. They don't want to pay for it because they get no tax revenue from the mall, and it's a provincial highway.
That said, Poco had to build it's own overpass over the Lougheed so I'm not sure there is a precedent in Delta's favour.

Suburb problem. Urban sprawl should not have been encouraged in the first place.

To be fair, if Delta had its way it's obvious they wouldn't have allowed the entire F/N developments to have been built in the first place.

Also, based on the picture from the CBC article, the overpass would be a walk from the intersection where the purported problems are. If the guy in the article's picture was too lazy to make a triangle walk around the intersection, and just walked across the highway diagonally, he's too lazy to walk down the block and up, across and down the overpass...

Just because it's First Nations land doesn't mean their choices don't affect other people. If the province is completely powerless to stop this 1950's development model, then at least enforce a policy where any adverse impact on surrounding land and infrastructure must be mitigated with funds for improvements.

Kinda ironic to say that a First Nation should pay surrounding municipalities for causing increased traffic.

This is the exact argument I use when people bitch about the lack of an overpass at King George station. The lazy people won't use it, and the people that would already walk up to 100th and cross there...

Canadian Tire and Pet Smart are now open across the street at Tsawwassen Commons.

They can't have their cake and eat it too...

Surely Delta is providing various other services to this development (water, sewer, etc.) at a fee. Why not traffic management?

Have their cake and eat it too?! I assume you know absolutely nothing about the history of TFN and First Nations in Canada in general?

Yeah it takes a pretty big sense of arrogance to think you have any right whatsoever to complain about what this FN is doing when you consider the history of this country. They're trying to make some money and it doesn't live up to your ideal of how that should be done. Well why should they care considering the fact that our very existence here is fundamentally rooted in the destruction of theirs? And no, it's not the distant past. That pain is still there. That inequality and racism is alive and well. We don't need to regurgitate the same old paternalistic garbage.

Yeah, real sad, just like the history of legislated racism against the Chinese in Canada up to 1971. Whatever the solution could be, it shouldn't involve setting back urban planning by 30 years. By now, it would have been better to just give every aboriginal family a million bucks, let them self-determine their future, and be done with white guilt. I would love for the government to relinqiush vast amounts of land for the First Nations to live as their ancestors did, but what they really want now is to build malls and casinos, except not subject to environmental regulation and land use planning.

I know. Ironic that the role of stewardship of the environment has switched places

Actually far, far more extensive and not "just like" at all. This kind of denial and oversimplification shows that you clearly have nothing to add to the conversation.

There has never been a period of genuine compassion and healing with regard to these issues in Canada. There was merely a tidy transition from unadulterated racism to a covert variety intermingled with the "can't they just get over it" narrative.

Oh boy, you sound borderline racist with your remarks. After hundreds of years of white Euro-Canadians stealing their land, killing their people to the point where they almost don't exist anymore you say that they are having their cake and eating it too by simply building their own community and trying to become self sustaining. Their treaty is a tripartite agreement between TFN, BC and Canada. They still have rules to follow. TFN is also a member municipality of Metro Vancouver. I think a lot of people are misinformed on how TFN functions.

It's well established that dleung is racist and has trouble relating to people with different life experiences.

The solution to this IMO is for the province/translink/whoever to build adequate road infrastructure everywhere.

It's getting very mundane watching another alleged anti-racist defend a system which maintains a set of rules and expectations for one group based on its race and a different set of rules and expectations for all other groups which do not belong to that race.
