The link in urbancanadian's post that I quoted is no longer working but from what I can remember about the phasing diagrams is that the old Safeway won't be closed until the new one is up and running. So, there should be uninterrupted service. The phasing will take years and years, though.

On June 1st 2017 the newsrooms of the Vancouver Sun and Province will move from their current location in Granville Square to the Broadway Tech Campus.
It's going to be really strange to see the tower without their logos on it.

Demolition of the old Purdy's Chocolate factory at 1107 West 7th Avenue. The tear down took place during the first two weeks of May this year. The site sits untouched since demolition.

Makes sense when they need to reduce costs as their industry is atrophying.

Or they could repurpose that old Cash Money building. That'd be interesting to see done.

The Millennium Line (Arbutus Extension) station will be under Broadway, likely stretching from a bit west of Main St to a bit east of Kingsway.

The station-houses could be on each end of the station, so entrances could be at Main St and at Kingsway. The SE corner of Kingsway/Broadway currently has the mall parking lot, so a slice of that could be used for a station-house. At Main/Broadway, either the Timmies (former CIBC ) or the Quikee-Loan place (former BMO) could be replaced with a new station-house. Due to the heavy construction to build the station and the station-houses, it easier to demolish existing structure rather than adapt it for new use.

Do you know that for a fact, or is that an assumption? I haven't seen any route maps apart from various people's nearest guesses of the route, so perhaps I'm missing some update.

For many many years now, on this forum, several people have suggested that the line is more likely (more logical) to actually run under 10th Avenue, for a number of very solid reasons:

- the generally uphill gradient from Broadway to 10th making for better underground entrances and exits on Broadway, allowing for a gentler slope, less deep stations, and less staircase switchbacks to the station
- avoidance of major underground pipes and infrastructure that run under Broadway
- less road congestion from any cut & cover sections if done along 10th instead of Broadway.

to name a few of the big ones that have been debated on here.

So if you're saying "he Millennium Line (Arbutus Extension) station *will be* under Broadway", I'd like to know your source, and the reason why 10th wasn't the final choice. Thanks.

All of the surveying and core samples done earlier this year for the 85% engineering study were done along Broadway.
Nothing was apparently done on W10th.

Tranlink's description now says: "6 km of track extending from VCC–Clark to Arbutus under Broadway" but I am not sure how loosely that's meant.

this building is so pretty ... San Franciscoèsque ...for want of a better word. There aren't many heritage buildings left, so it's nice to appreciate what we have, and enhance it.

Quite small actually. They went from 120,000 SF several years ago down to only 35,000 SF today. I believe they're shrinking that further to 30,000 in their new premises.

I'm not too surprised that they will be downsizing further, and am certainly not surprised that they are leaving the downtown core. Postmedia is crumbling, and has been cutting costs everywhere. The Vancouver Sun/Province newsrooms have gone through rounds of layoffs lately, and I expect more in the near future.
