Right now it costs almost $700 to go from Winnipeg to Halifax and back.

I think I'll take Air Canada.

Sorry, Newleaf

Edit: Prices in the first week of service have now dropped to just under $500 - still not spectacular.

Later weeks are somewhat better - coming in at less than $350.

Those prices may not be spectacularly impressive, but I do find them reasonable, considering for many years it costed me nearly $1,000.00 to fly from Winnipeg to Halifax and back.

Those days are generally long passed. Where it would regularly cost $500 to Toronto and back, the regular is far closer to $400 now.

Just saw a clip on Global Twitter where they interviewed Dick Graham, CEO of the Regina Airport Authority. He said the growth so far is about 1% for the year, which is not what they were expecting. Good growth, even if it is a small growth.

I've noticed that Delta is now only flying once daily from yxe. Not sure if this an adjustment in scheduling for aircraft and will return back to twice daily flights or Delta's slow but eventual pull out from the Saskatchewan market as predicted by most.

That depends - did they increase size? In Winnipeg, they're going from 4 flights a day to 3 on larger planes.

Did they keep the midday or RON flight?

I looked in late November, January and May and I still see two flights a day from YXE to MSP. They're on Embraer 175s in November and shift to Bombardier CRJ-900s at some point before January, but they have similar capacity.

Flight prices way up

I'm someone who travels regularly to the United States. I've flown from many cities across Canada. But I live in Saskatoon, so I usually fly out of YXE Airport. I gotta say, I know the Canadian Dollar is down, but WOW, have flights to the US ever got expensive. I expected a jump, but some of these prices are rediculous. Phoenix round trip is a thousand bucks. I know its around christmas and new years, but still. I've NEVER seen them this high. And I've flown to Arizona every christmas/newyears for years.

Anyone else notice this?

Supply and demand. Demand is the same or less, so I am going with supply.

I just received an e-mail from Air Canada a couple of days ago advertising one-way economy flights from Saskatoon to Phoenix starting at $209 if booked by Dec 15th. Just for kicks, I went online and put in a mid-January departure and mid-February return and got a return flight for $491, all in. So, there are still some deals to be had.

There are deals to be had, if you avoid the university break weeks in February and the holidays. We even got reasonable fares to San Diego during Reading Week ex-YQR, but we had to book last April to get them. (Seats fill up fast that week.)

As for holiday travel, even fairly late in the year, flights departing on Christmas Day are often reasonably priced. But flights just before and after are terrible, for obvious reasons.
