Nice article, but could have done without the “We don’t have mountains or the beach, we’ve got the team" comment, reinforcing to the world the notion that the Oilers are only thing that Edmonton has going for it and the only thing tying into the city's fate. It certainly seemed that way during the Gretzky era. There's more to a city than professional sports, people. A city of 1 million people should be beyond this mindset.
