aha! Found it. It's modern style. I had hoped for something more traditional, but the peal of downtown churchbells will be awesome.

They're using the Big Ben melody. A bit copycat, but enjoyable - and respectfully traditional - nonetheless.

More great stuff from one of our two leading photographers.
What I really like is how the Cathedral, Hotel Vancouver, and Cathedral Place building all combine to give an established, almost "European" feeling to this part of downtown.
And now the Bells! Downtown Vancouver is really maturing, mostly with a lot of good taste and smartness ... (IMO)

Scaffolding has been an eyesore for months, and also installed during the peak tourist season too. Looking forward to it being removed.

Not a fan at all of the modern belfry. It already looks dated.

Yeah agreed, except this one was taking way too long and that blob of scaffolding, tarp and netting was just pure ugliness.

Oh no, people have to suffer some scaffolding for a few months in order to get a new roof that will last 50+ years. The horror.

I never questioned the length of time to fix the roof and associated issues like asbestos: just thinking the set-up has been an unpleasant sight and would be HAPPY for it to be removed as soon as possible.

The above is merely to CORRECT Jebby who said that construction was "a few months" without first checking facts, and to point out that jabbing someone making a straight-forward comment with sarcasm isn't necessary.

It's a common thing to do in damp European cities when doing complex facade restorations.

The Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam was under wraps for over a decade! Looks great now though.

I don't mind the square shape too much, but what I definitely don't like is that "modern" stained glass design in it. Looks hokey and amateurish.
