Winspear Expansion:

We had an update on this project last night and the design is MUCH better.

500 seat multi-purpose theatre, a prominent school of music, an Enmax District energy centre and a 60 child YMCA daycare.

Here's hoping for some Provincial dollars.

^^ Love all the buildings and structures that are getting LED treatments. Makes our environment much more interesting to look at through the 5 or so months of winter darkness.

Concur 100%, although it needs to be done tactfully for LED can get tacky very quickly. In general though we need better lighting.

^ I agree. Why would they not put the LED strip along the top edge of the trim instead of under it where it shines directly into the suites?

Proposed rezoning of properties in McCauley

October 26, 2016

You are invited to a Public Open House to discuss a proposed rezoning for a portion of 96 Street NW in McCauley known as Church Street.

Date: Wednesday, November 2, 2016
Time:
6:30 – 8:30 p.m.
Location: Studio 96, 10909 - 96 Street
The rezoning would create a (DC1) Direct Development Control Provision to encourage the preservation of the area’s unique collection of 12 culturally, historically and architecturally significant churches. The rezoning would also include:

regulations for future development to be designed in a manner compatible with the existing church buildings.
the opportunity for low and medium density housing.
limited commercial opportunities for certain locations.
The proposed area generally follows both sides of 96 Street NW between 106 and 110 A Avenue NW.
To facilitate the proposed development, an amendment to the Boyle Street/McCauley Area Redevelopment is required to change a zoning map only. The rezoning is in line with policies and objectives of the plan.

I like the LED lighting, but I echo those who say they'd hate to be living in the top floor. This kind of reminds me of that old LED sign at the Edmonton Motors dealership (SE corner of 116 St and Jasper) before it was replaced with the newer one - it was more than bright enough to flash into my condo suite just under 500 feet away.

You can almost guarantee that whoever ends up buying Mayfair will shut that feature down right away; goes right to the bottom line.

Yes, I realize it's rental. I also know it's on the market.
