Wasn't Becker's Brother in charge of that department? Maybe why (I'm speculating) the deal feel through and they are starting from scratch.

No, Becker's brother was responsible for getting the theatre built.

I'll have a lot more pictures when they do the general open house tomorrow. Here are the iron grates that were custom made for the trees lining Regent Street. I'm assuming the trees are going to stay very small based on how small the hole for the trunks are.

Cool, I couldn't tell the grates were there from the previous pics. Relieved to see they're putting in the trees.

Disappointed to see they did away with most of the ideas Struck proposed for Regent Street.

Yeah, it's really hard to see the trees because most of leaves have fallen off them. There are quite a few of them though.

Fantastic pics above S.P. I imagine that the problem with a few of those paint/detail finishes is that they were a bit rushed for the grand opening. That unfinished crosswalk concrete would indicate there is still a bit of work to go back to over the next few weeks.

I'm excited for next month when I'll be in town. I'll have to check out all the new stuff along Regent and the Theater. I remember when Regent was a back alley that was more of a quick short cut that one wouldn't exactly want to hang around too long. Hopefully the finishing touches are complete by then!

On Sunday, we (The Mormon Tabernacle Choir) had the privilege to broadcast live from the Eccles Theater. It was still dark when we got there in the morning walking up Regent Street. The lighting scheme is fantastic! No pics in the dark, however here are a few pics from my perspective...

The sound levels were excellent, both in the house and on air. This performance was a special request from the City as part of the Grand Opening festivities, so it's unlikely to be a regular gig... I had a blast though!

Again, Fantastic pics Sean!! I am so impressed with the interior choices of palette and materials, and for that matter the exterior also. It's elegantly contemporary and spacious, but at the same time there's a sense of grounded warmth, which is not always captured in these type of structures. Impressive addition to Downtown Salt Lake City.

My wife and I took a stroll down regent street the other night, and I noticed something pretty cool! They have installed LED light poles, that I would describe as stage lighting, which can be aimed and rotated to light up regent street in various colors. Everything from the street to the buildings to the parking garage.

Looking back at those photos from the open house, I find it a little embarrassing that people dressed so casually for it, ie. t-shirts, hoodies, etc. I mean, if this was in Europe, most everyone would be dressing so much better. Just sayin'...

The grand opening was black tie but the open house was open to the public so a lot of people were just coming in off the street. Not everyone who came necessary planned to be there.

Yeah the open house was extraordinarily casual. Just a pop in and out sort of thing. I would have felt silly dressing up for it. And honestly I love not having to dress up for anything. It's one of the reasons I love Portland.

It was a two day event for the unwashed masses to see what their non discontinued tax funded bond from the early 90's had built.

I'm sure now that it's over, and now that cultural experiences like Kathy Griffen are going to be performing, we'll see the formal wear adorned.
