I don't think AC shies away from competition. Look at all the routes they launched/are launching from YUL. CMN, NCE, MRS, LYS, ALG etc. All of which have competition.

Two days ago we finally got YUL's passengers numbers for July and August and today we get the third quarter results. Great summer for passengers numbers as September got a 10.1% increase over last year, witch makes a cumulative 9,8% increase for July, August and September over last year!

As WestJet struggles with the operation of its Canada-to-London routes, the last thing the airline needed was another grounded flight.

But that's just what happened Tuesday, when a WestJet flight from London's Gatwick Airport to Toronto was diverted to Greenland because of a potential mechanical problem. Passengers were given meal vouchers, and two aircraft were sent to Greenland to bring them to Canada.

This has become a familiar story for the airline. Earlier this month, two flights from Toronto to London were cancelled. According to flight-tracking website Flight Aware, a further three from London to Toronto were cancelled the same weekend.

A nice cheap way to visit Greenland. Unfortunately, the town of Kangerlussuaq is tiny and boring and the food at the airport there is quite possibly one of the worst ways to experience Greenlandic culture. It was originally a US air base (Sondrestrom, if that means anything to anyone)

I think you have to differentiate the '767 operation here from the Transatlantic '737s: St. John's to Dublin and Gatwick and Halifax to Glasgow. Day-in and day-out of near on-time performance all summer long and an extension of the '737 operation they have been doing so well in North America for years.

What is up with West jets new planes not having monitors on the back of the seats? I always bring my tablet but I feel bad for people who don't have them. If you rent one of their limited tablets they only have about a dozen things to choose to watch. It may be time to give Air Canada another shot.

Some pretty impressive numbers for September out of JAR. Our airport clearly has the capability of sustaining international flights, excluding American destinations. Let's hope this trend keeps up and we see more non-stop international destinations come our way.

That is a reflection of their new inflight entertainment system which is essentially a streaming service to your device now rather than having dedicated seat back monitors. Saves weight, allows for redesigned seats, and way more content and the ability to personalize it somewhat. It was driven largely by changing technology and tastes, plus the fact that the satellites that hosted their previous content were changed and the inflight TV would not work outside Canadian airspace anymore and thus rendered their old system useless on a large number of flights.

I'm not talking about the Pearson airport specifically but:

When visiting Toronto I am now staying at hotels near the airport and taking the Union-Pearson (UP) Express train to go downtown. It's a lot cheaper for hotel rooms and so much easier to get downtown. The train ride is exactly 25 minutes to Union Station. There are two very short stops. (I think the stop stations are Weston and Bloor) All I did was walk to the Value Parking lot, get on the airport link train, get off at Terminal 1 and right there is the UP Express train which leaves every 15 minutes. I could have taken the hotel's free shuttle van to Terminal 1 but the weather was nice and it took less than 10 minutes to walk to the Value Parking lot.

Does anyone else out there do that? It's nice being able to pay less than $100 per night for a room and not having to pay huge cab fares to get downtown.

One of my two flights had WestJet Connect on it today and it was cool to use. I used my iPhone and the streamed channels came through great. I didn't need to buy the internet access though. If I was going further than YVR, I might buy the access next time.

I did that once last year. It's a great way to go.

I stay at the Germain ALT hotel since the UP Express opened. Comes about $150 cheaper and it's a nice hotel.
