A good plan IMO, from the start i always thought a more varied mix of tenants would be better for this location.

I saw a TV commercial for a luxury car company, i think it was lexus that used this building in the background for a split second
the rest of the commercial was all downtown vancouver mostly

I saw this building used as a medical facility in both The Flash and Lucifer a few weeks ago and its quite stunning to see. It looks so high tech and all. I guess the owners can always count on Hollywood North production while it waits for commercial tenants to sign in...

Building news with a restaurant opening up downstairs

Piva Modern Italian Restaurant and Wine Bar will be serving up food and vino in Anvil Centre in 2017.

The city has given notice that it intends to lease a 3,500 square foot portion of Anvil Centre to Amur Financial Group for the purpose of operating a full-service licensed restaurant and bar and providing catering services.

“The concept for the restaurant that is leasing up at the Anvil Centre is going to be a modern Italian restaurant and wine bar. It will be an independent restaurant in that it’s not a chain restaurant that is moving in there,” Mayor Jonathan Cote told the Record. “We think the concept that they proposed to the city actually aligns very well with the goals that city was hoping to achieve in the Anvil Centre and even in the downtown neighbourhood.”

According to Cote, Piva’s concept is “farm fresh modern Italian” in an upscale dining environment. He said it will focus on Italian and B.C. wines and the menu will include house-made pasta and wood-fired pizza and steaks.

In addition to paying taxes for the space and a portion of the building’s operating costs, the notice of lease of property states the restaurant would have a 10-year lease, during which time it would pay rent of $70,000 annually for years one to three, $110,250 for years four and five and $119,000 for years six to 10.

Douglas College has taken 4 Floors for a Second Campus.

Douglas College is adding a second campus in downtown New Westminster at the Anvil Centre Office Tower. The 6,132 square metre (66,000 square feet) space will support anticipated growth in student numbers over the next three to five years.

“The Anvil Campus Centre will be a wonderful new space that will draw students from every corner of the province to Douglas College,” said Advanced Education, Skills and Training Minister Melanie Mark. “This expansion helps Douglas College continue to provide the education and training students need to open the doors of opportunity.”

The Douglas College Anvil Centre campus will cover four floors, boast 21 new classrooms, a host of new student collaboration spaces, and a simulation lab for financial and Amazon-style supply chain management modelling. This will expose students to the pressures and realities of these fields.

“Douglas College is growing and growing. This expansion comes just in time,” said Kathy Denton, president of Douglas College. “It’s an exciting chance to develop new learning opportunities for our students through our degree, post-degree and diploma programs. It also gives us space we need to upgrade our existing campus in New Westminster and plan for the future.”

The new space will include flexible collaboration rooms that transition to the needs of individual instructors, quiet study and group project areas for students, as well as faculty and administration offices.

“Expanding to the Anvil Centre will give students more space to study, prepare for class, and connect after class,” says Supun Thalagala, Douglas College business student. “And, the best thing is, it’s so close to the New Westminster main campus and to the SkyTrain.”

This state-of-the-art facility is located across the street from the New Westminster SkyTrain station and two blocks from the main New Westminster campus, providing additional student amenities and space, while maintaining convenience.

“Douglas College is an educational jewel in our community that has been serving students in our city and across B.C. for 40 years,” said MLA for New Westminster Judy Darcy. “The Anvil Centre campus will help Douglas College build on that legacy of learning that has helped build our thriving community.”

Douglas College Anvil Centre will open mid-summer 2018 and welcome students for the fall semester in September, 2018.
