I like the building....the art is very late 80's style. I can almost imagine it floating by with the other random shapes at the beginning of "Saved by the Bell."

In Cleveland this week talking to potential investors on a project in Salt Lake City. Thoughts on a design concept like this? It would be a corner parcel, and would be a bit longer on each side and stepped down from 5 to 3 on one side.

This is just an image I pulled off the web as an example. Suggestions?

Don't like the corner especially floors 2-5. It doesn't engage or invite at all.

Haha, no, it's a thrust theater and an additional proscenium theater for theatrical plays, concerts, presentations, weddings, meetings, etc. Minneapolis and Denver both have a thrust theater in their portfolio. Denver also has an arena theater, similar to Hale Center Theater.

I posted this on the Performing Arts Center page:

My proposed theater district addition would bring Salt Lake City up to a theatrical level on par with Minneapolis and Denver. Furthermore, it creates great synergy with the convention center, and would make the Salt Palace more desirable for some conventions who'd use the additional auditoriums.

What happened to the Hoberman Arch? Why not put it on the new Regent Plaza or even over Regent Street? If they mounted it on a couple of beams it could open and close as it was meant to.

I was thinking the opposite. Before I saw your post, I was going to say, only build it if you make the corner the same. I love that corner.

I think you would definitely have a winner Future Mayor, if you included the corner design, with functional balconies as suggested above. That corner engagement would give it a cut above many of the typical newer designs going up. Good luck on this, and please keep us posted on your progress.

I agree Liberty Wellsian. This type of corner would be a design that is needed more of on these apartments going up.

Thanks for the feedback, as mentioned that was just a design I pulled off the internet that I liked.

I have met with the two people I intended to meet with, the project isn't really at the investment phase, but those two individuals, who I value their opinions tremendously, gave me some great feedback, which will allow me to move forward through the proposal phase and get to the pitch phase, hopefully soon.

I'll keep everyone posted as much as possible.

I walked by Regent Street today. A few new items:

They have hung the first blade sign in the alley way connecting Main St. to Regent. It's an old picture of 1920's-ish newspaper boy. Pretty cool.

Red planters are being set up along the alley way.

A mural on the wall near the regent street exit of the Eccles Theatre.

Blue cubic sign post in the ground at the north entrance of Regent Street.

Didn't get any pictures, but the street is coming together quickly now. I'm excited to see the finished product.

Yeah I wasn't asking if it was a possible venue for the Stars as you had envisioned it. I was suggesting an idea with a possible ready tenant, that would also be a useful auxiliary space for the Salt Palace, and that could also be used as an entertainment venue(concerts and what not). The demand for what you may think of as lowbrow entertainment is much much higher than the demand for theatrical productions, sorry it just is.

I'm not sure that the SL market will, at this time, absorb more than what already exists and is currently being built. In time I'm sure that we will get another theatre but I hope that that block is fully developed before then.

Does anyone know the status of the Utah Theater redevelopment? THe last I heard was that the RDA had given the project to a local developer (Hansen?), who teamed with up with a larger national? developer/financier. That was about less than a year ago.

I agree that would be a great use for it and it fits with its original purpose. I hope the City council doesn't continue to let it go to waste in the impound lot hoping that one day they can turn it into a jungle gym. smh

Please don't put it in a neighborhood park. Commission a statue if you want some art in a park.
