Interface moving HQ to Midtown

http://www.bizjournals.com/atlanta/news/2016/09/22/interface-moving-hq-to-midtown.html
Quote:
Interface Inc. is relocating its headquarters from Vinings to Midtown, where it will take the entire 40,000-square-foot building on West Peachtree Street near the Arts Center MARTA station.

About 150 to 200 employees will be based at the new offices, which will also include showroom space. Gould said no public incentives were involved in the relocation. The move to Midtown will also involve a regional headquarters and design center based in the Brickworks west of Georgia Tech.

The multi-phased build will take a decade to complete. The first phase of the project, which will span from 2017 to 2021, will cost $465 million. The second phase, from 2022 to 2026, will cost an estimated $138 million.

Broadstone Midtown

The house that was here was beautiful but this definitely feels a lot more urban.

City plans 1,000-space parking garage with green roof for Grant Park

http://www.bizjournals.com/atlanta/news/...000-space-parking-garage-with-green.html
Quote:
The city of Atlanta plans to build a 1,000-space, semi-underground parking garage with a "green roof" in Grant Park adjacent to Zoo Atlanta.

The city says the project will accommodate current and future parking demand, reduce traffic congestion and improve safety. The building's "green roof" will have planted vegetation to reduce storm water run-off, improve air quality "and create an attractive outdoor green space for the neighborhood," the city says.

Midtown’s landmark Kodak building to be reborn

http://www.bizjournals.com/atlanta/news/...andmark-kodak-building-to-be-reborn.html

Quote:
Midtown’s landmark Kodak building has sold again, and the new owner is planning a major transformation.

Salveo Integrative Health, which Hashmi runs, will open its third location at the site, transforming the building into a modern wellness clinic that retains the landmark Kodak sign on its roof. The Atlanta Eagle will also remain, having recently signed a three-year extension, according to Gonzales.

The wellness clinic is expected to open in early 2018.

As much as I like this project, I think it's a damn shame that they have that big blank CMU wall facing the Beltline. Can't they have a Starbucks window or something open out onto the trail?

TBH I hadn't even noticed that. Maybe this is a good candidate for another living wall treatment.

That's a good point.

Wouldn't this have had to go through the DRC?

so, these are all existing buildings just south of five points station, located here

https://www.google.com/maps/place/74+Pea...dadeec2849e!8m2!3d33.752428!4d-84.391377

most of them are crappy ghetto shoe stores or other things like that.. so i do hope they turn it into something nice.. there are a couple historic buildings mixed in there which if they bought i hope they conserve.. but really i wish they would buy up some of the damn parking lots around Garnet Station instead..t hats where we need to see some real development happening.

EDIT: well it would help if i read that damn article ( slaps self on wrist )..

"WRS would renovate the buildings and bring in new ground-floor retailers"

this sounds good! i always wondered how places such as C&S Beauty Supply, or the shitty phone store next door, or the shitty clothing store next to that managed to pay their rents each month. Also, holy shit the Metro Mall property is part of this deal! so they will probably be kicked out.. thank god.. people might actually want to go downtown again

Language like that is not appropriate in this forum.

I'm sure most of us would love to see a higher level of retail there but its my understanding that those businesses do high volume of business.

There are probably historic facades under most if not all of those buildings. Agreed, this could be a huge boost for downtown.

This going to sound ignorant, but I have always associated adaptive reuse projects to be just putting lipstick on a pig. With that said, almost every adaptive reuse project conceived or completed in this development cycle are as good or better than ground up developments. My whole perception has changed.
