Regent Street is moving slowly. They have 10 days until the grand opening and at the rate they're pouring concrete, it's going to be a nail bitter. For sure the retail won't be ready and the upper floors of the south end of the Regent Street Parking Garage won't be ready. The corner restaurant facing City Creek is half rebuilt and won't be open for quite some time.

I've never seen a project move so slow with doing pavement.

Your pic of Regent has helped quell some of my horror over the previous pics Sean. The brick definitely softened the previous garish look of the parking. Throw in the new commercial street level and some decent sized attractive trees to camouflage the parking layers, and it will be a much improved asset to the Downtown.

Yeah, it doesn't look bad. I think anyone who had their hopes up for any kind of drop dead gorgeous parking garage probably needs to reassess their expectations in general. It blends in better with City Creek Center and the Eccles Theater and it looks new and those two things alone will get people excited who visit Salt Lake City. I still really like the idea of having vines grow up it, but that is easy to add at any time. They just need to hurry it up and get it done already.

More slow motion progress on Regent Street. Tick tock, the Eccles Theater open house is 9 days away.

The street itself does seem to be coming along pretty slowly but I will say that when I walked by today it seemed to me like all hands were on deck. Hopefully it will be walkable by open.

Anyone know whatever happened to all that money that they were going to spend on art before Janet Echelman bailed on the project? Did they ever chose someone else to do an instillation or are we going from million dollar art piece to nothing?

I am in agreement, the brick and the glass soften up the facade substantially, with trees, art work, blade signs, string lights and programming, you're not even going to notice that it's a 10 story parking garage.

Like Stenar, I was also concerned about the garage looking too bland with the brick, but now it definitely look like a significant improvement.

My proposed theater district addition would bring Salt Lake City up to a theatrical level on par with Minneapolis and Denver. Furthermore, it creates great synergy with the convention center, and would make the Salt Palace more desirable for some conventions who'd use the additional auditoriums.

Regent Street is now open to pedestrians, at least I think it is. I walked through and took pictures and nobody stopped me, but there is still a lot of construction going on. Overall, I like the feel. With the new brick on the parking garage and specially once the retail opens up, it doesn't feel like you are walking in the shadow of a parking garage, but rather next to a 10 story brick building.

You can't see it in these pictures but I took a stroll last night and the loading bay doors were closed and there is a big mural printed on them. Really colorful and cool looking. Should have taken a photo. My b.

It connects from the Regent Street Parking to the Theater and it's between the Theater and the old Deseret News building. It makes the Theater super wheelchair accessible from the parking garage.

Looking closer, I'm not seeing any accommodation being made for trees on the east side. What gives with that? If that's the case, it's a big mistake in my opinion.

It connects Regent Street to the shared lobby of the theater/tower. I guess with the locking gate, they can close it off when the lobby isn't open.

The picture with the 2 guys digging in the hole is on the east side. It looked to me like a spot for a tree, not sure if there are others along that side.

I emailed the Salt Lake Arts Council to get an answer to this question. They said that in lieu of choosing a runner up for the project they will be starting from scratch at the beginning of 2017.
