An 80-storey condo tower proposed for the Quarters in downtown Edmonton is being unveiled at a public hearing Monday night.

The Quarters Hotel and Residences will tower over Jasper Avenue and Grierson Hill Road, bordered on the west by the Shaw Conference Centre and 96th Street on the east.

The building would be the tallest in Edmonton. The Stantec Tower stretches 66 storeys and is expected to open in 2018.

Developers Alldritt Land Corporation LP say the tower would included a hotel, condominiums, restaurants, fitness facilities, shops and two publicly accessible parks.

Several amendments to the land-use bylaw would need to be made for the project to be approved, including removing a portion of the site from the North Saskatchewan River Valley Area Redevelopment Plan.

The open house goes from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Russian Orthodox Cathedral of St. Barbara on 101st Avenue and 96th Street.

Well, it turns out that those fins do have LED lights!

That'd almost surely be Canada's tallest. Just quickly checking I don't see anything equal to or greater than 80 stories that is less than 300 m.

This time next year that spendid view of Rogers Place will be for the most part hidden by Building B and the Marriott.

As to the Alldritt proposal - I do like the location and height. Reminds me of the need for fine tuning like what we have seen with Ice District towers. Not to shoot the design architect that did the initial render - but who it is? I have to say The Edmontonian design appeals more to me then the Alldritt.
