Are you telling me that not a single retail unit has been leased? If this was any other city, businesses would be clamouring all over each other to locate at such a high-visibility intersection. Sometimes I want to shout "screw this city!"

My guess is that a few of them have been, probably around 30-40% with the rest waiting to see who is going in where to compliment.

Nice read. Once Simons opens we will be there to shop. Hope there are some other stores that compliment Simons.

It will see how well Londonderry does once Simons opens and what it will do to Kingsway. I was surprised to find out recently that Londonderry is fairly similarly sized to Southgate, despite Londonderry being a less desirable, tertiary mall (for now).

Looks like a typical food court offering to me

There's one surprise coming still for the 3rd floor I think, but they're still working on the deal

If that is the sole extent of their redevelopment program, I agree.

The hopeful part of me clings to the dream that this is just the first small step of a wholesale repositioning and densification (i.e. multi-res on top of the old Eaton Centre). I guess one can dream.

More possible but still not overly likely would be a replacement of the Eaton Centre parking structure with a new development. That would be my dream.

If anything that parkade is going to get bigger, it's built to support another two decks. But CoE has a long term lease on that parkade so I don't see much changing there for the forseeable future

It's a mall food court, you guys. I don't know what you were expecting here.
I've never tried Shanghai 360 before, look forward to trying them out.

I am concerned where Caffe Sorrentino will be moving to.

Am also wondering what retail or eateries will be opening in the COE tower.

Seriously? C'mon man.
I would think some refugees from the mall would be looking to relocate there.

Exactly my thoughts too, they RELOCATED/CONSOLIDATED a food court(s).

I hope Caffe Sorrentino are staying as it's my usual (and super convenient) coffee joint for meetings.

Better yet is to shop at Holts, HS, WEM and soon Londonderry with the new Simons. Even though I live in the core CC has nothing for me what so ever. Having said that my reality is most of my clothing has been bought while outside North America. Last week in Vegas while at Caesars - I walked through the Forum Shoppes which is a great beautiful "mall", so interactive with dining spots right out along the mall ... indespersed with great stores. A throng of high end stores by original designers - and all packed. I wish CC was more interactive and instead of food court had gone with dispersement of restaurants along the mall with seating open to the promenades. Fashion Mall in Las Vegas do the same but to a lesser extent also have an upper food court. Of course this costs more to construct for the M&E - but is great for shoppers. Even the the redeveloped South Plremium Outlets in the mall by the Las Vegas airport broke up a single food court into 3 parts along the very long mall to create a more pleasant shopping experience. A great way to motivate people to keep walking, shopping and eating or take mini breaks. In our case stopping for coffee twice while not buying a thing. We actual do shop lots and checked out more malls than the ones above looking at architecture and layouts.

Why would the city have/need that?

The reality is that fashion retail is dying a slow painful death

The other reality is that ECC is just not the draw that the suburban malls are, for a wide variety of reasons. So people can prostheletize all they want but it's just background noise

In th meantime I know that many office workers and visitors will enjoy their new food court that will make their experience at ECC much better
