Still, retail is something to keep our favorite urban streets alive until now. That's why most on here and elsewhere hate exurban, suburban malls surrounded by surface parking lots so much. They would ruin your downtown streets in their lazy fashion if they could (but they can't). It's better to have families, their kids and single people to stroll their streets and enjoy it. It seems socially healthy.
Street retail is surely not the best possible thing, still acceptable till we get in some more cooperative economy.
Not sure we'll see that luckier in our lifetimes, though. I guess people who'll follow us will be luckier than we are, as I'm sure we are luckier than those who came before us.
