Don't they already have the foundation of the western portion already in? Wouldn't it be difficult and costly to repurpose it at this point to put a tower there?

It isn't across from the Fox - it's really more in the medical heart already in existence in that section of Midtown. I would expect a medical facility to go there - especially considering the derelict mess just down the block and that no one wanted to build just a couple of years ago. Peachtree is a LONG street and I think we can afford to have something besides coffee shops and restaurants lining it, and definitely so in the hospital-adjacent district. I guess next someone will get tired of the beautiful churches along Peachtree and push for highrises with boutiques on the ground floor. I mean, who goes to church anymore??
Maybe when you have cancer you look at things differently, but this will be very convenient for the Emory Winship Cancer Center located at Emory Midtown. I think if it ever gets completed it will be a great help to many cancer patients that go to Winship just across the street. I realize it's a great corner for another highrise, but if I'm not mistaken this building can be built upon - possibly for a medical use highrise - in the future. If anything I wish Emory would build on that parking lot between BOA and the historic Crawford Long building...that is a real eyesore along that stretch of Peachtree and they have a couple of massive decks on the other side of the highrise building.
I will say that I sorely miss the beautiful mid-century office building that was demolished prior to the recession. That was a huge loss for Midtown and would have held that corner nicely for decades to come. Then maybe they could have built the Proton Therapy thing on that ugly parking lot across the street! I guess everything doesn't always work out as planned, but I do wish the city would require definite plans with financing in place before razing existing structures that are still usable and good-looking. I really miss that building!
