I used to take that for granted being from England.

As reported earlier, the former Canadian Tire building will become a U-Haul as reported by T&T.

Glad to hear it. This will actually be a pretty good use of the property (as long as the owners take pains to keep it from looking too cluttered).

Welcome to the forums. You will find a lot of the Moncton development chatter is neighbourhood specific.

This post is from the [Moncton (East)] thread from earlier this year.

Quote:
There is a new building planned for the NW corner of the Harrisville/Veteran's Highway interchange:

This is the location. It will be in behind the Fairfield Inn by Marriott.

The render shows that one of the tenants will be Cora.

I wonder what this might mean for the existing Cora location on the corner of Dieppe Blvd and Champlain???
This may be what you are talking about.....

I heard a rumour yesterday that the land out at the end of the runway somewhere (the only space big enough would be on the other side of the runway) is being added to the mix of possible places for the new Costco. People would have direct access off of the Trans Canada and that they're planning on a "Big Stop" -esque gas bar to go with it. It seems Dieppe would like to be added to the mix, nice tax dollars.

That would place Costco at the extreme eastern end of the Moncton conurbation. That would make about 70,000 residents of west Moncton and Riverview most displeased........

On further reflection, a Costco located here wouldn't be convenient for anyone, even people from Dieppe. Perhaps people from Sackville or Amherst would be happy, but nobody else would. This would be a very bad idea..........

It might not be a bad second location though, especially if your target clientele is northern NS, PEI and northeastern NB.

A couple of tidbits about the Rallye Auto Mall from today's T&T:

- full build out will be in 2018.
- the building currently under construction will be for a new Rallye Nissan, relocating from West Main Street.
- Rallye Chrysler will relocate from Morton Avenue to the old Rallye Nissan on West Main Street. This is probably a good move. The "old" Nissan dealership building isn't really that old, is spacious and modern, and won't be that close to the new Moncton Chrysler building that will be going up at the Mapleton/TCH interchange, probably next year.
- They did not say what other dealerships are planned for the other two buildings in the auto mall, although relocation of the Mitsubishi dealership would be a no brainer. Also, the article stated that "new brand(s) will be part of the project. As such, with relocation of Nissan to the auto mall, I would think this strengthens the rumour that Infiniti is coming to Moncton. I'm sure Nissan would like to have their Nissan & Infiniti dealerships co-located.

So, my prediction is:

- The auto mall will contain Nissan, Infiniti, Hyundi & Mitsubishi
- Chrysler is going to West Main Street.

Good to know they confirmed it. This was the latest speculation after I forget who's friend that works at Rallye Chrysler said they'd be moving to west main. Infiniti will likely be closest to Wheeler due to it being high end.

Dixie Lee seems to have closed there doors without a word. It's dark inside, and the parking lot is all barricaded.

Local and provincial governments should do more to encourage retail. The public has little understanding of how impactful retail is on our economy: tax, jobs, construction, infra-structure, tourism.

From 91.9 The Bend:

The Habitat for Humanity ReStore has officially opened in the former Better Buy Sports location on Mountain Road. Between this, and the impending renovations of the old Canadian Tire store for a new U-Haul location, that's a couple of large vacancies on the middle portion of Mountain Road suddenly filled. Good to see.......

It is so much better than their previous location. The old place was nothing more than a warehouse, this has a definite store feel to it. The one thing I found though is that it isn't as big, there isn't a tremendous amount of good on display for sale.
