Here's an FAA case for a 472' tall downtown tower crane that was filed this week. But I can't positively identify the project on the horrible map that is used for FAA filings. I'm guessing Austin Proper maybe.

NLand Surf Park is set to open this Friday. The contingency of it staying open is that they send daily water quality reports to Travis County officials. In two days, surfs up! It does look a little industrial at this time, I hope they do some extensive landscaping and maybe set up an area for people like me who would like to enjoy the park as a spectator and not pay $60 - $90 to do so.

From surfline.com

The Blue Prairie Restaurant, there will also be a juice bar located on what looks to be a boardwalk. The people in the shots were invited surfers for a pre grand openning party / preview.
The next 3 images were taken from their webpage:

"3rd & Colorado Residential." This is a site plan that was filed today for a new project as far as I know. There's a surface parking lot at this intersection. It's the same parking lot that is next to the Austonion.

Yep. Which reminds me, Google Earth updated their Austin images. They don't have the 3D images updated yet, but you can see the library, Northshore, 500 West 2nd, Fairmont, Aloft, UT Headquarters, Rise on 8th, University House, UT Engineering Building, Domain 8, Archer Hotel, Capital Ridge, and Hotel Granduca. Plus, you can see the site preps for The Independent, Homewood Suites, 5th+West, and Shoal Creek Walk. And also the new 2nd Street bridge.

Maybe I'm misreading the info in the site plan that was filed, but I don't think that parking lot is where this proposed project would be built. It gives an address of 300 Colorado Street. (That's where Sullivan's Steak House is.) It gives a legal description of: "LOT 4-6 BLOCK 028 ORIGINAL CITY"

This old document from 2006 which was a presentation by the Downtown Commission concerning Downtown Development mentions Block 28 as well (on page 3)

Quote:
The analysis that produced the attached maps was done block-by-block and, in some cases, on a lot-by-lot basis. Blocks were evaluated
"as improved" and "as if vacant." If the committee's subjective value of a block" as improved" was greater than $300 per square foot (land), it was
considered to be an unlikely candidate for redevelopment for the foreseeable future.

This analysis would eliminate from consideration obvious blocks such as
Block 39, (Hilton Hotel), Block 81 (Chase Bank), and other blocks that are
intensely developed. The analysis would also eliminate some of the not-so-obvious blocks such as Block 28 in the warehouse district (219 West, Sullivan's, etc.) and Block 16 which contains P. F. Chang's, Fleming's, Roy' and Houlihan's.
I'm wondering if this might actually be a smaller project built above what is currently Sullivan's and Sully's Side Bar.

Re: Above...
2 good things:
Authur Andersson will be guiding the project! Can't think of better person to understand the bones of that building and move it forward.
AND... restaurant! Great location! Need more in the area !

That's good info. A search for the owners of lots 4-6 on Block 28 shows that it is owned by:

Big Steak GP, LLC
General Partner
207 San Jacinto Blvd, Suite 300
Austin TX 78701

It'll be interesting to see what the project looks like.

They have a $5 "Shore Pass" for those that just want to spectate.

That's cool, I do want to spectate, $5 is just fine with me, and maybe check out the restaurant, thanks for the info ATX. Not sure anyone here is that interested in this place, but this is a pretty significant add for Austin.

That's a massive surface parking lot next to the YMCA...not the most efficient use of land in such a valuable area. Beyond that, I don't think the plan is horrible. It seems a stretch for all of this to happen, in my opinion...but it does seem beneficial in that Cesar Chavez would be less of a freeway between Lamar and Mopac, forcing cars to slow down and inviting potentially better development for the area. Am I wrong to presume that the two rectangles next to the Pressler St. extension where it meets Cesar Chavez are open for development?

I found the elevations and a rendering for that one over at the Historical Commission's website.

BTW, I thought I recognized that photo on page 10 of the above document and went back and looked and sure enough, it was one I took way back on January 1, 2010 from the 15th floor of the Westgate Tower.

I went back and looked and I didn't see this project posted:

W2 Real Estate Partners Plans 206-Unit Community Within Mixed-Use Development in Austin

Quote:
Austin-based developer W2 Real Estate Partners and its joint venture senior housing partner Bridgewood Property Co. have revealed plans for The Village at the Triangle, a 206-unit seniors housing community within the Triangle mixed-use development in Austin.

The community will be located on a 1.5-acre site within the larger 30-acre development. It will feature seven floors of independent living, assisted living and memory care apartments above a two-story garage. Units will average 882 square feet, with luxury two-bedroom suites reaching over 1,300 square feet.

I think there's something planned on Pressler, but my google-fu is failing me.

All of this goes a long way towards explaining why there's so little development on that portion of the Mopac/Cesar Chavez approach. Based on proximity to DT and the lake, that's prime real estate to just be sitting idle.

Community Impact has an update about the Town Lake Villa project since City Council is taking it up again. The article also has a new floor count floor count for the Waller Park Place towers - 54/48/30-stories.
