Any guesses on how long we will have to wait for the rendering? I am so excited! As a side note, do any of you think that the Bunker Hill tower could be a similar scale? Heck do you think 5-Oh could be scaled up because of the boom happening around it?

Excited about Onni breaking ground soon!

Would like to be about the JMF/Pershing Square 57 story tower, but instead I'm skeptical. Has JMF ever built anything? They don't appear to even have a working website. Could their real intention be to sell the property?

When you're saying "Bunker Hill", I'm assuming you're talking about the old Cal Plaza 3/Angels Knolls site? If so, then I don't think it's a stretch to say it could much taller (perhaps even twice the height) than this new Pershing Sq. Tower. Can EASILY be a supertall, for a few reasons, 1. the size of the lot is MUCH larger 2. It practically sits on top of a subway portal so the possibilities are just about endless 3. It's even closer to the cluster of skyscrapers of Bunker Hill than this new tower so less opposition for being "out-of-scale".

Not sure about 5-Oh.

I say Gehry should go tall on Bunker Hill on the parcel across from Disney Hall. The pinnacle of the skyline. The Disney-ABC Tower? Would be a spectacular crown to the skyline. Could soar to 1200' or higher.

L.A. like I've stated before needs some "retro" Art Deco towers in the historic district around Broadway. Those old 1920s buildings are nice, but stubby because of the 150' height limit when they were built. Need a few new "retro" 600-800' towers in the Hill-Broadway-Spring district.

I hope for something like 9Dekalb going up in Brooklyn.

A skinny artdeco glass tower would compliment the rest of the skyline so well.

Details have emerged on the DTLA 2040 plan:

Some key points

"Finding adequate space to fit in an additional estimated 125,000 residents, 70,000 housing units and 55,000 jobs between now and 2040 is a primary goal. To achieve that, the new plan suggests raising density limits in a major way in South Park, the Arts District and Fashion District, among other areas, and even creating project size minimums to prevent “under-development” on key plots."

"City Planning hopes to raise overall design and architecture standards. Options include mandating attractive facades on above-ground parking podiums, and removing common barriers for developers such as minimum parking requirements, which are often difficult to include in projects on small parcels."

^^ that Brooklyn tower is everything I look for in life.

I'm surprised no one has brought this up yet but do you think the NII is pushing some of these projects forward? I imagine if you've investing years and countless dollars into a proposal, you'd be scared to death of this thing passing in March.

The last two weeks have been insane. The Oni twins breaking ground, Oni proposing a hotel in Hollywood today, the other tower coming back from the dead, the massive project by USC, half a dozen skyscrapers proposed for Koreatown, a 57 story building next to Pershing Square, Angels Knoll being developed, a beautiful proposal for the Fashion District, a bunch of proposals for the Arts District including 50 story plus towers, and the list goes on.

I have never seen anything like this, and the news is just getting crazier by the day. I remember when Urbanize LA was putting out one article a day, and normally only one a week was about a new skyscraper. Well now we are getting at least one new skyscraper a day! When will this madness end? (hopefully never)

Great article! My views exactly. The demolition of the Richfield tower was a tragedy. I remember that building when I was a kid. So imposing. Too bad ARCO didn't incorporate it somehow into ARCO plaza. Like I've said earlier, L.A. should build a few "new" soaring Art Deco towers to compliment the shorter towers from the 1920s & '30s, kept short by the height limit. Would love to see a few 40 or 50 story Art Decos in the historic district on Broadway.

P.S. could someone put up a photo of the Richfield Oil Tower so people who aren't familiar with it can admire its magnificence, and what L.A. lost. Would be nice if someone rebuilt it as a 40 or 50 story tower, with the spire on top! At least we still have the beautiful Eastern Columbia building.
