Ugh on one hand that looks a lot better than I expected to, but it's still such a waste of the property. I really wish Gardner had tried something more ambitious.

The groundbreaking was yesterday:

City Leaders Turn Spades at Groundbreaking for Pioneer Crossing—Formerly 'Parcel B'

Quote:
Boise city leaders and developers turned some earth the morning of Sept. 22 at Parcel B—a 5-acre property near the I-84 Connector that is set to become what they're already calling "Pioneer Crossing."

"Right here is the Pioneer Walkway," said Gardner Company Chief Operations Officer Tommy Ahlquist. "We thought, 'Why not call this Pioneer Crossing?'"

The development will include an almost 650-space parking garage, as well as a 150-room Hilton Garden Inn and 132,000-square-foot office building. Also sharing space in Pioneer Crossing will be a restaurant; retail space; and the offices of the Boise Metro Chamber of Commerce, the Boise Valley Economic Partnership, and the Boise Convention and Visitors Bureau.

Construction is expected to last 18 months, with a tentative completion date of March 2018.

I guess that is as good as it gets for us on Parcel B. It's not a bad looking layout overall it just seems that lot deserved so much better. I know I am beating a dead horse here I just wanted to get it off my chest one more time.

You see the Hilton Downtown Hotel they built in Cleveland? It's beautiful, perfect height to fit in with Boise, and would have been glorious on a lot like Parcel B. Just sayin'.

Totally agree with you. I posted renderings of the Cleveland Hilton when we were talking convention size hotels. Boise has so many buildable lots downtown that maybe in the future a developer with vision will build a beautiful large hotel. Can't wait for Clay Carley's hotel renderings.

The most recent elevations of the Watercooler Apartments were a little bit concerning. Because of the small windows and symmetric design, the elevation views have a little bit of similarity with a county jail. I don't know what others think.

Also, the exterior of the Hyatt Place are going up on the north side of the building and is pretty disappointing. Perhaps one hue darker than the Hampton, but nevertheless brown and other assorted earth tones. A gray and white color scheme would have been much more modern and urban in feel.

The Watercooler Apartments are just another boring box of a design. Was at Design Review when they asked to put in cheaper white vinyl windows. The city wants a better design for downtown windows. They got their way.
Developers seem to come in with a design that looks great, and by the time it is built get changes that are cheap and ugly. Hope this will only be a short term happening.

Are you referring to the gym by the Connector?

Bieter at FY 2017 Strategic Planning: New Library is 'Project Whose Time Has Come'

Quote:
"I don't think it will come as a shock to anyone that, at the top of my list, is the main library, front and center," said Bieter, who hasn't been shy about his desire to build and/or renovate a new downtown branch on Capitol Boulevard. "It's a project whose time has come. I would like to see us spend the next six months with financial analyses and some reach-out for philanthropic opportunities. Then we would bring it back to the council for a pretty involved discussion in preparation of taking this to stakeholders and the public."

Tunnels & skybridges?

I'm going to be cranking out several stories this week.

The first is this one - which I've been working on since August. A strange "no comment" from ITD warranted some further digging...

Visions of tunnels & skybridges as officials haggle over Downtown Boise's busiest streets
