Stadiums and Arenas of Canada part 2

^ No question that soccer and basketball seem to be very popular among non-white sports fans, but around Wpg I can tell you I've seen people of all colours wearing Jays gear this year. It seems to be pretty in, especially for the 20-somethings who hadn't been paying much attention to the Jays until recently.

But that said, hardcore baseball fandom (i.e. following teams other than the Jays) tends to be the domain of mainly white folks. Around here, at least.

Bell would love to have an MLB team in Montreal with all the content it would provide them in the spring summer and fall. A regional tv contract for the team would probably be worth $75 - $ 100 million annually if the team could average 300,000 - 500,000 French and English - speaking viewers per game which is easily attainable.

The problem is would Bell, as hypothetical owners, be willing to pay most or all of the cost of a $500 million ballpark. I doubt it, and there has been no movement on the stadium front in Montreal since these rumors of the Expos return began 2 years ago. I doubt municipal and provincial governments will be in for any more than a token amount of stadium funding.

Some in Calgary may not look east but my 24 year old son and I spent a wonderful evening at a prairie pothole trout pond northeast of Calgary last night and enjoyed a beautiful sunset accompanied by combines pulling in the harvest, coyotes calling in the distance, a whooping crane, a family of muskrats and a family of great horned owls as well. I'd take an evening like last night over a night in Banff any day.

That's, quite literally, a different "game" entirely. Hockey is eons above baseball in terms of general interest and even in cultural terms here.

BTW, I hope the two levels of government you are referring to are municipal and provincial.

I was at Rams vs Huskies test event at NMS yesterday, and the stadium is amazing. We sat in a few sections and there aren't really any bad seats, even in the end zones.

And man, New Mosaic is going to be LOUD thanks to the canopy. It was really loud yesterday, even though there were only 16500 people, and the crowd seemed to be split evenly 3 ways between Rams fans, Huskies fans, and people who didn't care about either team. Once the place is packed with 33,000 Rider fans it'll be deafening

Would be nice if those 2 schools could play Mosaic every year and build it up into a big thing like the Panda Game.
