New trolley bus wires are being installed downtown for a route that travels along Davie St., Pacific Boulevard and up Cambie St.

They've installed shiny new trolley bus wires northbound on Cambie St. in front of my condo (between Nelson & Smithe).

A co-worker said they've installed new trolley bus wires on Davie St. to Mainland St.

There's a massive new post in the Pacific Boulevard median at Davie St. - presumably to support multiple wires radiating from it as they make the turn from Davie to Pacific Blvd.

It would be the No. 6 (orange line) shown here.

Having neither the Davie nor Robson run on Granville will P!ss off the entire west-end.

Thanks to Vision deciding Robson at the art gallery didn't need buses (and other nasty vehicles) making life unfair to pedestrians around there.

Why did they pull them from revenue service (coming from the person waiting over an hour to ride one twice now).

One of them ran into propulsion problems on the SkyBridge a week or so ago, and they were pulled from service to investigate what caused the issue.

Throwing them off in the middle of Burrard Inlet and making them swim would probably be a good life lesson.

Quote:
Two would-be SeaBus surfers had some serious ’splaining to do after they were caught riding across Burrard Inlet on the deck of the vessel Friday night.

Two boys somehow managed to sneak past SeaBus staff as the vessel prepared to leave the dock at North Vancouver’s Lonsdale Quay just before 7 p.m. They then got on to the rear of the ship and stayed hidden until a few minutes into the crossing, when they were spotted on the deck by terminal staff from the shore.

One passenger on board the SeaBus at the time said the stunt pulled by the two teens appeared to be filmed by a friend who was inside the vessel.

Once the captain of the SeaBus was alerted, the vessel was stopped, said Cpl. Richard DeJong of the North Vancouver RCMP and the ship headed back to North Vancouver, where police met the pranksters at the terminal.

Parents of both teens were notified, and asked to come and pick them up.

The SeaBus then resumed its trip to the downtown Vancouver terminal, about eight minutes behind schedule.

Police have recommended charges of mischief against both teens, who are both from Vancouver.

“Other than being extremely dangerous, it’s also against the law,” said DeJong.

DeJong said he’s not aware of any other similar incident on the SeaBus.

Translink is extending service to Tsawassen mills mall...

By throwing conventional buses onto the highway 99 routes. Thats an additional 17 or so passengers per trip, and the 601 runs every 15 minutes today.

TransLink has had conventional buses on the 601 seemingly randomly for the past year. It's quite strange.

We seem to be running short on express buses, thats it, to be honest.

Also, I just rode MK3 #401 from 22nd to new west.

I saw one last week but I wasn't sure if it was the same train that had a problem. How many are running now?

I'm honestly a bit surprised they haven't sent one over to the Evergreen extension for clearance testing. They've got trains from all the other generations on there now.

Noise barriers and overpasses: how to make living with trains more bearable

Proximity Issues aims to tackle noise and safety problems that come from living near railways

By Andrew Kurjata, CBC News Posted: Oct 03, 2016 9:30 AM PT Last Updated: Oct 03, 2016 9:30 AM PT

Two people were killed in five days crossing train tracks in Terrace, B.C. Safety issues are one of the main problems Cynthia Lulham is trying to tackle. (Brent Lewin/Bloomberg)

A city councillor in Quebec is trying to get B.C. municipalities to sign on to a plan to deal with noise and danger issues stemming from railways crisscrossing through Canadian cities.
"It's a Canadian problem," said Westmount councillor Cynthia Lulham.
"Canada was built around railways, railways built the communities, so they run through the middle of many communities. But today, a lot of the land that's left to develop in many urban areas is around railways."
Lulham says the issue is that the land around railways used to be primarily industrial, but today it's often used for commercial and even residential space.
"The cities zone it residential but don't put any caveats on it, and then developers come along, they're just in it to make a buck," she said.
"They build something quick and fast and they're gone."
One of the primary recommendations Lulham has for cities is to require noise barriers between train tracks and new developments. (Proximity Issues)

New rules recommended

That, she says, is where the problems begin. Homes that are too close to train tracks have to deal with noise and vibrations.
More serious are safety concerns that stem from railways going through spaces people like to walk, such as in Terrace, B.C., where two people were killed in five days crossing train tracks that divide the city.
Working with the Federation of Canadian Municipalities and the Railway Association of Canada, Lulham helped develop a program called Proximity Issues, which advises cities on what requirements and considerations should be in place when building around railways.
Advice includes putting in noise barriers between train tracks and housing, and working with other levels of government to build over or underpasses for pedestrians to bypass walking across train tracks.
So far, she says, close to 75 municipalities have adopted the guidelines — but not very many in British Columbia.
Lulham has been appearing at local government meetings in B.C. to try and get buy-in from local leaders and, she hopes, the province itself.
She says her message is simple.
"You can develop in proximity to railways, but you have to do it differently."

I'm not sure they need to run the Mk III trains for clearance testing, since they are the same dimensions (within mm's) of the Mk II trains.

And since the Mk III's are not expected to be seen in service on the Millennium line / Evergreen Extension, is this a pressing issue?

We may get a "parade of trains" of each train vintage on the revised Millennium line during the Evergreen Extension opening day, but the Mk III trains are destined for King George - Waterfront service.

Every new Mk III train will bump six Mk I cars or four Mk II cars over to the Millennium / Evergreen. The Mk III trains arriving next year will also bump more older cars over to Millennium / Evergreen (or to the spares line).

All found on their public engagement page here: http://tenyearvision.translink.ca/have-your-say/
Link also includes a schedule of their open houses regarding this project.

Also, a weird question. They talk about upgrading the 135 to a B-Line. But the 135 is already limited-stop and on the Frequent Transit Network. What other qualifications does a route need to be considered a B-Line?
