Wow I thought that bowling alley post was a joke/screenshot from an Adam Sandler movie or something.

I hope all you mall lovers enjoy this place, an opening like this has become quite rare . . . new place, new location, new concept . . .

As for the death of brick and mortar: so long as we still have bodies, we are going to need places to take them.

Also completely agree with the commentary as to 🞵🞵🞵 are they thinking holding a job fair in downtown Vancouver. Almost everyone in Vancouver let alone Downtown thinks Tsawwassen is 9000km away on the other side of the country and quite frankly there are enough jobs for them right around home.

Absolutely should be advertising South of Fraser. Seems like someone is out of touch with reality and makes me wonder now too how well this mall is going. Could give them a pass on a lot of things but this doesn't show any business sense.
My friend is working for a temp recruiting agency. They are going to absurd measures (everything except offering above 11$/hour) to try and convince people to work there. Regardless, it is a foregone conclusion that plenty of TFW will be brought in.

At the end of the day, this development along with the new GMB will be the driving force behind putting immense pressure to rezone the ALR's for residential developments.

It's ridiculous that TFW are even being considered. Maybe if they hadn't built it in the middle of nowhere they wouldn't be having an issue. Macarthur Glenn didn't seem to have these problems.

Canada-Line (within 24mins of Waterfront station in Vancouver), Airport, no GMT/AFB to deal with. the location is just much more central than this one. that's why. who wants to deal with all the hassle to get there for 11/hr when you can get a job for 11/hr somewhere closer.

Exactly. The issue is also the amount of people so quickly. The mall is being built before the population around that area and they need to hire everyone all at once. It would be different if it was just 1 or 2 stores but you add location and just the amount of people needed and it is a recipe for disaster.

That and I still firmly believe that given the location and difficulty in getting there for most potential employees, that they would need to pay more than minimum wage. They save in location but are also trying to skip on wages.

If they paid $15 an hour then they'd have less difficulty I think.

There will be next to no major land exclusions from the ALR in Delta, pretty much guaranteed.

The George Massey Bridge will serve the growing population in South Surrey, which has 50+ years of developable land left outside of the ALR in areas already designated for growth under long-range community plans, and within the Regional Growth Boundary.

i drove passed it last week on my way to the ferry, i didn't realize it would be so close to the road, i pictured it being further away, but it looks massive, the parking lot looked pretty full from all the workers on site. Might have to check it out.

Similar to the shuttle services that office tenants in Richmond office parks have.

Tsawwassen Mills tackles major recruitment crunch
By Glen Korstrom | Sept. 26, 2016, 8:03 a.m.

The 1.2-million-square-foot Tsawwassen Mills mall is slated to open October 5 | Ivanhoé Cambridge

Tsawwassen Mills management is taking extraordinary steps to attract workers in time for the 1.2-million-square-foot mall’s October 5 launch, but the mall’s tenants continue to find recruitment a challenge.

The mall announced September 20 that it would operate a daily employee-shuttle service that leaves the mall, which is at the corner of Highway 17 and 52nd Street, every half hour between 8:15 a.m. and 10:15 p.m. Service on Sundays will end two hours earlier.

It will travel to Scott Road SkyTrain station, where it would also leave every half hour. Each trip would take 25 minutes.

Fees for the shuttle, the only one at a Metro Vancouver mall, will be $2 each way or $40 for a monthly pass.

“The shuttle will help fill a gap in the public transit system” Tsawwassen Mills general manager Mark Fenwick told Business in Vancouver.

Far-flung suburbs are getting many interesting malls and huge retail centres now, filling a gap that urban centres like Vancouver's downtown is unable to accommodate. In the long term, I'm quite worried that these malls will be going by the wayside as more people will become concentrated around urban centres such as Burnaby's Brentwood, Lougheed and Metrotown, Surrey's Whalley area as well as Richmond centre and its surroundings. As these urban centres grow with their own retail hotzones and brand new malls, who would travel so far to shop at Tsawwassen Mills? Even less would want to work there.

There are still people living out in the suburbs that don't ever drive into town.

*********

WRT shuttles - Same as what GWL provides to office tenants of Crestwood Corporate Centre (Knight & Westminster Hwy):

Oh definitely. The concept of this mall feels very 90's American, from the themed bowling alley to it's isolation. Even if i lived near this i doubt i would ever go to it.
