Nashville very interesting, kinda Vegas meets Memphis. Amazing building stock and a 15 storey curtain wall parkade.

Bridgestone arena was very nice in parts, the rest is a blank concrete wall.

I spoke to several developers last year who are very active in small scale infill in the city, they were frustrated because this guy and others like him bid up prices on redevelopment properties. The properties are sold as redevelopment but not redeveloped though.. They are used as bottom of the scale rental housing. This stuff exists almost everywhere but it's a big problem when it's concentrated. Which may now be happening south of the river, we know of several sfh & duplex properties picked up but also one 11 unit apartment building. Those types of properties are particularly impactful and can bring a neighbourhood down quickly

The supreme court rendered a decision, it is over. In the brief explanation I received the insurer must cover all the costs associated with the damage and remediation, only the cost of the original work (the window cleaning) is outside the coverage.

Was at the new Grand Villa casino attached to the arena for the first and last time. It was much smaller and a lot more cramped than we thought it would be. There is nothing "grand" about it. We wont be back. Enoch has nothing to worry about at the local level - its is way better, more spacious and "grand" than the new one downtown. I hope the Century Casino Group doing the new horsy track and casino at EIA do a much better job at what is on offer, overall design and layout.

enoch... if you like a smoke filled casino, all for ya! I dont frequent casino's very often, but definitely won't be back to that place. Even the non-smoking areas were disgusting. Felt like I was back in the early 90's or earlier.

To be fair, Bacarat was not any larger. It was an upgrade to a new facility, not an expansion.

Forget reading news reports. Go see it first hand and you will see what I mean. The layout here has got to be the worst in Edmonton. Its real disappointment for us as we like to game. Off next week to LAS for 2 weeks and we thought we would check out the Grand Villa in case we wanted to try it before we leave or after. As it turns out it is so incredibly disappointing we won't ever be back. It has to do with the lack of private poker rooms, layout, design - just everything is wrong about it. I was expecting so much more - and am now shaking my head in disbelief as it looks like the casino was "shoe horned" into a square box and they stuffed it to the limit. An example of bad layout is the slots behind the escalators. Talk about a cramped and claustrophobic area.

I know Enoch can be smoky - and that is a concern for us. But its a beautiful casino and since neither of us smoke, we take fresh air breaks. I sure hope the new one at Century Mile sets a new standard for Edmonton as Grand Villa sure as hell does not.

I agree that I find the Grand Villa cramped and the layout ill-conceived. After the open house I went in to check out the two restaurants, but you have to navigate through a rat maze of slot machines and the fatasses parked in front of them to get to the Atlas steak house. The corridor next to the Match pub was a tight squeeze. It could be that they have way more machines than what the design originally intended.

I agree about the layout of the new casino. A group of us went there a few weeks ago and said the same thing.

VERY tight layout, lots of slot machines too close together and not a lot of tables to play at

I know they said it's double the size at 60,000 square feet, but does that included the new restaurants and food court? Because the actual gaming space felt cramped

At the River Cree there are wide corridors around the gaming areas to get to the amenities.

What I also found amusing at the Grand Villa is the VIP gaming area across from the Atlas. It was empty except for the dealers and wait staff standing there staring at the entrance with smiles and waiting for patrons to come in. What a job to have!

You still gotta walk by 'em though

I still have a hard time seeing a casino as an attraction. I like playing blackjack every once in a while but can't stand nearly every other aspect of the casino experience.

Have to agree with the layout comments regarding the Grand Villa. And here I thought nothing could get worse than the Argyle Casino.
I hope the WEM casino reno doesnt churn out something like the Grand Villa.
