It can be very jarring for people who've always lived in a haven of political correctness to find themselves in places that aren't so PC. Or when someone who is non-PC "invades" the haven, like a bull in a china shop.
We have a ton of non-PC songs as well. I suspect the "rest of the continent" likely had many as well, but I suspect they've been more thoroughly purged than they probably have in Quebec and Newfoundland.
I have French on both sides. One is from Quebec and the other from Ontario. My grandmother from northern Ontario used to sing a song about China men with short legs. I can't remember how it went though I'm certain it was horribly racist. It may have involved the railroad construction too. Not sure anymore.
