I was concentrating so much on the buildings I forgot all about the billboards.

Thus, it appears that their wheels are resting on dirt.

** A "troller" is an electrical current-collecting predecessor arrangement of what we think of as a trolley.

The section below from the 1888 Sanborn Map shows Pico jogged at Main (red X) but not at Maple (blue X).
Ahead of the streetcar appears to be either a T intersection or a jog, so I think the photo probably shows
Pico and Main rather than Pico and Maple.

Thanks for the link about the 1993 fires in Malibu, Earl. Considering the fire was over 20 years ago, the driveway and gates still look well maintained.

Just like I did with the Good Shepherd Convent pictures a few days ago, I took a gamble on this Julius Shulman location being in LA. This is "Job 1060: Laurel Medical Center, 1951".



Is it just me, or would this place look like a motel if you removed the caduceus?



As well as the separate treatment rooms, it had its own pharmacy.



Here's a look around the back.



At night it looks even more like a motel (IMHO).



I've left out a few of the exterior views, and the interior ones which just show waiting areas. Now rinse and spit!

There are a lot of Laurel Medical Centers in the US, but the number in the second picture helped me find this one at 3959 Laurel Canyon Boulevard, Studio City, just south of Ventura Boulevard. The pharmacy is now a hair removal studio, but it's still a medical center.

Hoss, I believe there might have been an additional building(s) up this small road. (shown below, red arrow at right)



It's about the width of a single lane road and the edges are smooth so it isn't a run-off channel or anything natural like that.



I've circled where the small path/road ends.

The Tudor-esque building directly opposite the end of Barham is 3201 N. Cahuenga. The LA County Assessor
gives its build date as 1926/1935. Here it is in October 2014:

I came across Windcliff several times when I was looking for an address for the Medical Planning Associates offices I posted a couple of days ago. The original Windcliff building was actually on Brown Latigo Road. Today the property seems to be known as Windcliff Ranch. The dark-roofed building on the right matches the closest one on e_r's picture, so maybe it survived the fire. The property appears to available to rent - there are pictures on Instagram.

We're going industrial with today's Julius Shulman post. This is "Job 995: Kwikset Lock Company (Anaheim, Calif.),1951". The company's Wikipedia page is here.



In the thumbnail I thought this was the cafeteria, but I assume that it's actually a design office.



Most of the 19 pictures in this set show manufacturing equipment such as presses, lathes, milling machines etc. Here's one to give you an idea of what's available.

Here's a slightly later shot (at least 1959 going by the Chevy station wagon) showing the revised frontage. The open area has been filled in, and the signage has completely changed.

It looks like the factory at 516 East Santa Ana Street expanded considerably after 1953 (below, left), gaining extra buildings and a two-story parking garage. The view below on the right is from 2004. The 2005 image shows an empty lot. It remained undeveloped for about five years. The site is now part of the Colony Park housing development.

The 1951 photo above shows a male supervisor standing at the end of the packing table. He appears to be doing nothing but watching the ladies do the packing.


The other 1951 photo show machinists working at various industrial-factory machines. Until the 401[k] retirement programs started in 1978, these jobs were just that...a job .

ER - The wife (she's from Taiwan, and a self-proclaimed expert on everything Asian) says that this is a Buddhist (Japanese or Korean
style) stone pagoda replica that people put in their yards.

I can find no reference in an admittedly cursory check of any reference to Paul Williams having designed this on any sites devoted to his work.

As a purely coincidental noir and an admittedly attenuated followup to GW's and other posts on the subject, in 1934, a Mr. and Mrs. Lindbergh of "Spirit of St. Louis" fame, were staying at Will Rogers' (nearby) Pacific Palisades home, when news broke that an arrest had been made in connection with the kidnapping of Lindbergh's first born. Not saying there is any connection between Rogers, Lindbergh and the happenings at the so-called Murphy Ranch. However, one wonders if Rogers (who tragically died in 1935) had any knowledge about the development of his former real estate holding and whether he harbored any opinions thereof. Lindbergh's knowledge and opinions, especially with the benefit of (America First) hindsight are probably more open to debate.
