Well I guess the City will get close to $4 Million back from fines. I wonder what is the plan for this money. I hope it goes back into infrastructure such as more neighbourhood renewal.

How about a fund to move the Rossdale redevelopment forward...or for QE park funding.

The Bridge deck finisher/power screed has arrived on the bridge site. Figure a week for set up. they could start to deck pour before the end of the month.

Report going to councillors next week says Walterdale bridge now not open to traffic until mid-2017. Was supposed to be late this year

Not a surprise. Pretty much every major project has been a mess and that says something about the department doesn't it.

I am assuming that the offsetting damages will be paying for things like maintenance etc that the mentioned but that we will continue to see the fines piling on at $10,000 per day for another 9 months.

less those days when it was too hot. Or too cold. Or the river was too high. Or too low. Or they were waiting for something from a consultant or the city. Or they received something from a consultant or the city... Or they dispute the penalty altogether as illegal because there was no offsetting bonus provisions.

Plus even if it applied universally it's an inconsequential amount compared to the final overall budget. At the $10,000/day it's ~2% of the total per year & at the $17,000 rate it's ~4%.

So, you're saying that if it's just 24 more years late the bridge will be FREE?

Sweet.

I believe they are poring concrete today. Saw a pump truck on the north side and the crews were working feverishly around one if the finishers.

my understanding is that the delays have to do with asphalt not concrete. You can heat and hoard concrete to pour in cold weather....can't do that for asphalt.

Of course you could always pave out of spec in cold weather if the asphalt plants are still open. It's part of the frustration of having municipal engineering standards based on specs and not performance. You can go ahead and take the risk to pave a parking lot in November on a private site, but your 🞵🞵🞵🞵 out of luck for paving infrastructure to be turned over to a municipality once the daytime temps hit a certain threshold and the base freezes. You would think that on a project like this common sense would prevail and allow out of spec paving to get the damn thing open and save a bit of face....but common sense is in short supply when dealing with public projects.

Of course, with a bridge there is probably more nuances to it than paving regular roads....

Somebody should have been shitting bricks earlier in the year when they were scheduled to pave on borrowed time in October...and figured out a way to get it done in time.....Getting things timed in Land development to ensure you can get it paved in the fall is pretty much the measure of success and pretty much everything you do is with that goal in mind. Nobody wants to have spent a boat load of money and sit on lots you cant sell until the following year when you can get in there and finish surface.

Asphalt plants usually shut down on the 15th of October, & it's usually a scramble up until that time to get work done. If you're not in the queue by this time you're screwed

We really had to juggle our big parkade delamination project around asphalt availability for the two years it was going on. If you miss the deadline you are stuck with coldpatch until spring
