YEG - Edmonton International Airport Part III

My father-in-law is ready to confront his lifelong fear of flying to come over from Sweden to do some fishing, but in BC. I'm gonna get him (and my fishing-crazy, yet vegetarian wife) a package & force him to come over through sheer social obligation

He's also super stoked to spend some time at the JPL after my wife lavished insane amounts of praise over our honeymoon visit this summer, but that'll be a night or two at each end of a week in BC methinks.

Northern Saskatchewan also seems to draw in the fishing crowd. Usually flying to Saskatoon and then jumping off from Prince Albert. Surely northern AB could get in on some of this action.

I think BC's salmon fishing is likely the best fresh water fishing in Western Canada, people come from all over the world for the Sockeye runs

And of course the ocean fishing off the Island and up in Haida Gwaii is amazing. Best fishing I have ever done, asside for fishing for Yellowtail in the Sea of Cortez, has been up there

Most Europeans I meet in BC will take a side trip to Robson or a few nights in Jasper, few head further east than that

Developing a string of hot springs (like 5 or 10+) without chlorine, and with varying mineral content would help that market.

So putting all the reduction and cancellation of flights together plus reiterating again that YEG is no tourist hot spot, what is the terminal's capacity versus utilization at this point?

Is the terminal's gates completely full at anytime? If not, do we need the north terminal at this point in time? Would this be a good time to renovate the north terminal with lower construction costs and the lack of need for it? Or will we ever need the north terminal gates in the future? Can it be repurposed in some way?

That way, I could just bring my skates to use during my breaks in the winter, and a quiver of golf clubs to use in the summer at Redtail's driving range. Makes coming to work more palatable.

NewLeaf will stop flying to Victoria and Kamloops (and Regina and Saskatoon from other airports) from November 1st to mid-December, with flights probably returning for the holiday season.

Their schedule is now out until April from the looks of it too.

They stated today they will be introducing new routes, hinting at us routes in coming days. (New Leaf)

Yeah, those routes must have been bleeding. I wonder if any of their routes are even breaking even. Their route map seems to change every week. Great marketing... Keep your customers guessing whether the route you just booked will even exist next month. Great way to build loyalty.

From what I can see YEG will now have 9 flights per week:

YXX 3
YHM 2 (+1 via YWG and the other continues to YQM)
YLW 2
YWG 2 (1 per week continues to YHM)

I have reason to believe WS is crushing them on YXX.

I'd be surprised if they are doing well on any route. The honeymoon period (summer) is over and they will now have to contend with the large drop in traffic at this time of year. Too much change in such a short period of time cannot mean things are going well.

Finally get to try out the retina scan of my Nexus on Monday. Off to KY/TN for the week.

It's neat technology. I used the retinal scanners in the back of the house when I had my red pass at EIA

Still have my red pass and the scanners are interesting. I started using the scanner when they were first brought in.

I really should get my Nexus Card. Mind you having someone in a wheel chair gets you through the lines just as fast. and really helps in Toronto, the longest slowest trans boarder lines I have ever seen.

If Newleaf fails, the public is to blame. Their fares are cheap and their routes are rather comprehensive for a new startup. Canadians complain about lack of competition in many industries and then don't bother supporting a startup even when the fares are competitive and the service good.

Icelandair has updated their summer 2017 scheds and looks like YEG-KEF is going daily for the peak summer period.
