It's so embarrassing that the city can't fix that massive sinkhole on 104 st in a timely fashion....it's not like there are weekly events on that street that draw 25,000 people.

Every underground and surface contractor I know is begging for work at the moment....maybe it's time to clean house with those guys driving those white trucks with blue stripes and contract out that stuff to some private contractors who have a wok ethic.

Paula Simons: Selling off a little bit of history might help McKay Avenue School save itself

PAULA SIMONS, EDMONTON JOURNAL

Last year, Edmonton city council agreed to designate the McKay Avenue School site as a Municipal Historic Resource. It was welcome move, since the majestic 1905 brick structure, which now serves as a museum and archives for the Edmonton Public School District, and the little 1881 original wooden school house beside it, are two of this city’s most important heritage assets. The designation was timely, too, since it triggered a municipal grant of $300,000 towards the cost of repairing the brick building’s failing roof.

More facade-ism.

IT looks in quite good shape, shame we can't restore it and do the tower beside it.

Also and importantly (but my guess is not sadly), are they going to retain the most awesome ads and incorporate them into this?

I would assume that the ghost signs will be retained and will be visible from within the lobby. Does anyone have more insight on this project?

That would be really cool if so.

Is it just me, or do the tiny windows in the rendering give the building a Robocop meets Remand Centre vibe? Like not in a good way.

well we should be happy with the two facades shouldn't we? because they'll do that by being totally in keeping with the scale and architecture of the proposed new building won't they?

besides, it's not as if there's enough adjacent vacant land to redevelop if we think artist live/work space might potentially rejuvenate the quarters...

What happen to the 6 storey neighbourhood they wanted to create, lol? The pavement is barely dry and they're already panicking?

Does this mean there is a developer that is proceeding with construction? Be a pity to allow for the demolition of the building and bricks put in storage if the project does not get actually get constructed.

I really liked that little building. There is not much left with charm. Too bad it will be a ghost of its former self.

The decorative poles for the 'Jasper Avenue New Vision' that are still not installed between 100 and 102st will be
starting to go up Sept 11th with work occurring in the evenings.

The coloured top elements are still in design and should go up Q2 of 2017.

Any idea who the developer is? I noticed they hired Der & Associates. The rendering doesn't look too bad, but I sure hope there are street-oriented townhouses fronting 83 Avenue.
