Hudson's Bay Downtown Vancouver Location is bringing back it's Toy Department after it closed 10+ Years Ago where it was located on the 4th Floor. The New Toy Department will be located in the Sub Basement.

The Toys in the Original Toy Department were sent to Zeller's.

No necessarily. It could be that the strata bylaws here do not give the building manager any role in the construction of improvements within a suite.

If this were a traditionally-owned/managed property, in that case then the PM would have a much greater role in reviewing and approving interior improvements.

Ignore that. Confused it with the new Ryu fitness clothing store going in at 805 Thurlow.

Chintz and company store is empty and up for lease. That was like a standard in the design decor crowd.

Cos is opening in Gastown. Looks like a small location.

Went the way of Liberty, I guess, the shabby-chic trend is long over, The Cross might me next to go if they don't update. Minimal and Modernist is very powerful at the moment.

The Homer St. location?
That was a big store.

But hopefully the kitschy archways will be removed from the art deco façade of the building.

Anyone notice how both Save-on-Foods and Safeway are touting "1000s" of reduced regular prices in their flyers this week.
They must be hurting.

Safeway's parent, Sobey's ( Empire ) reported a 942M loss in June.

Yeah, because of the Safeway acquisition.
So I guess Save-on-Foods must just be following suit so it's not left behind?

Urban Tea Merchant is closed on West Georgia, they're doing a popup in Nordstroms in the meantime until I assume they open a new location.

It's interesting how Sobeys hasn't used the Safeway acquisition to introduce a discount brand in the west to take on Loblaw... it's coming up on four years since the deal was announced and still very little in the way of integration or changes. The only big one was getting rid of Safeway Club.

I wonder how long the shareholders will continue to tolerate these losses.

They got rid of Safeway Club, All of the Safeway house brands, sold the dairy division, integrated warehouses and offices, combined flyers and advertising where both Safeway and Sobeys exist together, etc.

Hardly 'very little'.

Ron.

Shareholds were not pleased. The CEO stepped down for "undisclosed reasons" about a month ago and the CFO from empire stepped in temporarily. A variety of cost cutting measures were put in place.

Sobeys switched Safeway from an in house developed ERP system to SAP and messed up the implementation. Good financial times article on the topic:
http://business.financialpost.com/news/r...-massive-losses-and-drove-customers-away

Sobeys also switched some of their brands online systems off a an older version of local Mighty+ (http://www.mightyplus.com/) onto a less flexible platform. Mighty+ is a bit more customer friendly.

The lower prices is a strategy Sobeys has been trying in the west to gain back some of their market share. Between Sobeys, Safeway and Thrifty foods they have the brands that are very similar in the West. None of them are discount oriented.

I only shop at Safeway and was very pleasantly surprised by this. The reductions were fairly significant.

I cannot understand why Safeway might be doing poorly as the stores are always busy.

Interesting, they always seemed to be busy. Maybe they couldn't tolerate the construction of the new retail building on Alberni.
