Not sure if it's related to that or something else.

There is a view of the frontage road side of the Hertz building from July, and it's definitely closed - at least for business. It appears to be open as an unofficial homeless shelter.

Some time ago somebody posted (on this forum) some sort of flyer advertising that parking garage for potential redevelopment. I vaguely remember seeing an example rendering of how a tower could fit on that site.

Materials company 3M, best known for its Post-it notes and Scotch tape, is selling its main 156-acre campus in Austin, the company has confirmed.

Company CEO Inge Thulin told 3M's Austin employees in an email last week that the Austin site "has served us well for many years, and as we assess new workspace options in the Austin, Texas area, we will explore opportunities for buyers of the current Austin site."

The company declined to reveal the list price for the property, which includes 1 million square feet of office space. The 3M land, at RM 620 and RM 2222, is home to employees who work in 3M's "electronics and energy" group, as well as its research and development facility.

The company first built this campus back in 1988, according to the 3M website.

Glad to see the Pressler St. project heating up. I drive in to downtown on 5th St. every morning and am amazed at the amount of developable space. That area could support a lot of multifamily housing and walkable commercial/retail.

I've been trying to figure that out as well so I can update the project list. It should be underway, but I rarely get to that part of town to verify it.

I'm pro growth and pro density, but that's not a very strong article. He conflates/confuses the metro and the city, switching back and forth literally from sentence to sentence.

He knocks Austin for _only_ having 10k building permits. But we're 1/3 the size. If that was the only factor, as he claims, we should have seen less price increases than DFW.

The Fairmont, Aloft and 500 W. 2nd St. might all be topped out by the end of the month. There will be a little lull before the next round of towers start to make a vertical impact. But when they do it'll be awesome:

It's funny, because all the people complaining about the development in downtown - one of the big things they complain about is fewer trees, but it's really the opposite. There's more trees in downtown now than I think there's ever been.

I think the same thing every time I see photos of downtown back in the day. It was truly a wasteland compared to now.

I can understand when people complain about cookie-cutter housing developments that clear-cut native trees so they can lay out their streets and homes however they want...only to "replace" them with sticks. This is not the case in downtown, obviously.

Wasteland. I used that word so often over the years to describe downtown.

Yeah, not a lot of trees in whole blocks paved as parking lots.
