Good stuff Pierre - I guess the new name for the development is justified then.

That's an awesome find! Where did you get that map? I have some old maps of Moncton but none that old. I checked Google Earth and there was actually still building on the site in 05 and in 04 the street connected to the parking lot where the current Sobeys is at.

I also upon further examining the area on Google earth, I didn't realize that Honda and Nissan have only been down on west main for about 11 years. I thought the buildings were older than that.

Well, I just learned from you that Google Earth offers historical imagery - that's great.

Aerial photos from October 2005:

Two buildings seen from Google Earth - I think Frenchy's was here before it moved to Record St:

Looking towards the dealerships:

Larger version of the 1977 map:

Map taken from this UdeM page: http://www8.umoncton.ca/umcm-vincent_guy/GEOG%202701.html

It also contains other interesting reads & goodies, such as this downtown concept from 2002, which hurts when you compare it to today's reality:

That downtown concept render is interesting. I vaguely recall it.

It's always interesting to think about "what if" scenarios. In this case, what if the casino had been located downtown on assumption Blvd (like it should have been). What would this have meant for the downtown core?

I would imagine another large hotel (or two) and related pubs and restaurants. Just imagine the synergy between this and the new downtown events centre.

What a wasted opportunity........

It's an interesting concept that's for sure, sad that it didn't happen, but hopefully the future holds better plans than this.

Somebody's been honing their photoshopping skills.

It's not quite that bad, but we get your point.

The larger building was the Army Surplus, a mandatory stop back in the day for all teenaged boys who owned a bicycle or 25 cents for bus fare. The smaller white building was the Frenchy's.
Now I feel old all of a sudden.

For a period of time, Trius Taxi was also headquartered in one of those white buildings.

I think so. Not 100% certain on it though.

I was thinking I wonder if they would have built the Aquatic Centre in Moncton, and I know it was probably just a student project then.

1.Would there have still been an Aquatic centre in the works for Dieppe.
2.Would the YMCA Have built there new building.

What are they building at the Georges Dumont Hospital? It looks like a massive addition.
