Fans are more fickle about Football I think. I would honestly rather watch at home then sit on a back breaking bench at Mc Mahon and deal with the awful concessions and facilities. Not to mention the ridiculous weather this summer.

I said GODDAMN at those Rogers Place pics. I hate you Oilers.

Flames attendance was also down noticeably this year. Tickets may have been sold but there were plenty of empty seats through the latter half of the season.

With the Stamps I'd say it's a combination of poor scheduling, new ownership cracking down on tailgating and pissing off long term fans, no more blackouts on TSN, and a horrendous stadium that are depressing attendance.

The Stamps have new ownership? When did that change because I didn't read about this in the news, who are the new owners?

Also, the tailgating seems to be going along as usual, I've been walking through the tailgating area every game for the last 6 years and haven't noticed any changes.

Are you being purposely obtuse? Surely an avid attendee would know that Calgary Sports & Entertainment now owns a controlling interest in the Stampeders.

This is a few years back (2008 if I recall correctly) - when the Flames took over catering from Phil's they asked the police to crackdown on open liquor in the tailgating area as many people were going out to have drinks in the parking lot at halftime rather than buying beer in the stadium. It was very heavy handed and it made many long time fans disillusioned with the team. They've eased up now but the damage was done with long term fans and the atmosphere is nowhere near what it used to be in tailgating heyday.

As the Flames were selling out, people who couldn't get tickets before the slump but have managed to maintain their disposable income could be soaking up the tickets that are now available

To be fair to Speedog, CSE gained a controlling interest in 2012 so it's not really a recent development.

You make no sense. The stamps have multiple owners, the flames bought shares in 2005 and have continued to buy more shares. They took majority ownership in 2012 but there is no "New owners"

Actually, in the context of what I said, the Flames were indeed "new" owners at the time of the crackdown on tailgating. Reading comprehension is important.

Is it actually the Flames who bought shares? Or is it the entity controlled by the Flames' ownership group?

If it's anything like a typical sports ownership arrangement, I would imagine it's the latter, e.g. similar to how MLSE owns the Leafs and the Raptors, as opposed to the Leafs "owning" the Raptors.

CSEC owns part or all of the Stampeders, Flames, Hitmen and Roughnecks.

Calgary Flames Limited Partnership initially bought a minority stake in the Stampeders around 2005 and had owned the Hitmen for many years prior. Some time after acquiring a controlling interest in the Stamps the name of the company was changed to Calgary Sports & Entertainment Corp.

Council Exec committee update today in Edmonton on the arena... and its 'community benefits'.

3hr discussion, debate and speakers from the community (including me)

Long story short, many groups believe that given the significant public investment, there should have been a binding agreement with far more benefits to adjacent communities, social agencies, those at risk, vulnerable or who might be displaced by the area or associated developments.

^^^ Wow are those impressive pics - especially the concourse areas! After seeing those I'm really sad that I'll be sitting in crappy old McMahon for at least the next ten years. NMS is definitely big league quality. Funny to think that some people think that McMahon could be upgraded to come to even 50% of that quality. In fact, I think I'd rather save my money and go to one Rider vs Calgary game in Regina than spend any more on season tickets in Calgary.
