Nah, Gucci is high end. It always has been high end. I don't want to flex my fashion knowledge on you but Gucci has been steadily higher end ever since Tom Ford got rid of the licensing deals and brought everything in house, though there was a small period where Gucci dipped prices in relation to lower demand during the interim before Frida was brought on, and is now trying to become even higher end with the rebranded and appointment of Alesandro Michelle, following the similar success Kering had with YSL. But don't take my word for it, go online and see the $20,000 fur coats Gucci is selling, and rabbit fur too - not even the nicer mink. But I digress.
And I think Paris is pretty dead, except for the thousands and thousands of tourists who go there. Is there really any youth culture there anymore? Moreover, I think it unfair to compare the entirety of Paris, literally the luxury capital of the entire world, with Downtown Los Angeles, a small submarket. A more similar comparison would be SoHo, which has gone from an artistic community to a tourist destination filled with literally nothing besides high end globalized brands and clubs.
