Of course. But that means they have to catch you.

Remember, Montreal has been built on illegal work.

Right now, Uber is not yet profitable in Montréal.

That's mob stuff though, no? Very different from crowdsourcing. The Mafia is more like the taxi companies, Uber is more like the random mugger.

How is Uber doing in Quebec, anyway?

Here in Ontario Uber is now very entrenched, as both Ottawa and Toronto have decided to legalize Uber, and the provincial government has approved insurance changes that allows Uber to comply with Ontario's auto insurance laws. In both cases, these changes were made with very little changes being required to Uber's business model.

Quebec passes law to regulate Uber
Quote:
The new law will require "remunerated passenger transportation services," including UberX, to buy a taxi permit or face stiff fines.
Quote:
Anyone offering taxi transportation services without holding a permit would face fines of $2,500 to $25,000. The company could be fined up to $50,000.

But in Montréal, Alexandre Taillefer wants to control a 100% electric taxi fleet by 2019, more than 2000 cabs (there are 4500 cabs in Montréal). Taxelco is the name of his company, they operate Taxi Hochelaga, Teo Taxi , and Taxi Diamond. Drivers will be paid by/hours.

the Montréal taxi industry is about to change dramatically. "But I assure you: we will not make any more acquisitions in the Montreal taxi market because at 40%, we have the density required to serve all Montrealers in 5 minutes or less. "

Taxelco 2000 electric cabs by 2019

- a tablet for the customer with an integraded payment terminal
- a digital dome on vehicles, where an LCD display geotagged advertisements, which change depending on the positioning of the car. "This is unique in the world"

Purely anecdotic, but my friends and coworkers have switched to Téo and prefer it even if it's a tad more expensive.

What’s Next for the New York Subway? Toronto Already Knows

By EMMA G. FITZSIMMONSAUG. 22, 2016
the New York Times

TORONTO — Step on board, and the subway car immediately feels different.

With a clear view down the length of the train, commuters walk from car to car searching for a less crowded spot to stand. Others gather in the accordion-style passageway between cars, an area once separated by doors.

Nearly five years after Canada’s largest city introduced the spacious new cars, subway riders here — usually quick to find fault with the transit system — have given the trains a ringing endorsement.

“You can fit more people, especially during rush hour,” said Louis Molnar, 43, an accountant who stood in the shifting connector between two cars on a recent evening. “In the past, sometimes you’d have to wait for the next car, and this makes it so much better.”

Now, officials in New York City are embracing the car design to create more breathing room for subway riders as the system struggles with booming ridership and increasingly overstuffed trains.

The new subway trains, which could start to appear in New York by 2020 or earlier, do not have doors between cars, creating up to 10 percent more space. These so-called open gangway trains are common in cities like London and Shanghai, but subway systems in the United States have not adopted them.

Not far from New York on the other side of Lake Ontario, the trains have become popular in Toronto, a city that is also grappling with a growing population and an overtaxed transit system. Some riders even enjoy standing in the bouncing connector, comparing it to surfing or skateboarding.

“It’s just kind of fun,” Chantal Wall, 33, a stylist, said as she balanced on a connector in heels. “It makes it a little bit more interesting. I feel like I get a little bit of a workout.”

The full article can be read from the link above.

The beginning of the end for self-service gasoline vehicles

800 vehicles,

Quote:
"Our goal is to reduce gradually the number of gasoline vehicles in the city, says the manager of transportation to the executive committee of the City of Montreal, Aref Salem. The objective, and repeated since 2014, is to have a fleet of shared 100% electric vehicles by 2020. "

It has been at least a month since I last posted on this website, but for the last three weeks I was in Vancouver, and indeed all over western Canada (Okanagan, Rocky Mountains, Calgary, Pincher Creek, Regina, etc...) . I took 700 photos and many videos while around so I will be very active over the next couple weeks as I get the mall edited.

I also finally bought a GoPro camera. My first test playing with it was taking the Canada Line from Waterfront to Richmond.

So, for fun, here is a time lapse I made of riding the Canada Line:

Here are some pics I took of the new MK3 skytrain cars near Metrotown. Sadly, I left Van days before they were open for ridding.

That they do. Nice to see that walk-through train design is now found in all of Canada's three largest transit systems.

Ya those new Azur and SkyTrain cars really look cool. Also both built by Bombardier so no wonder they look similar.

Thanks! Still been lurking. Enjoying seeing your pics of Taiwan on the weather thread. I got a lot of pics of the Okanagan to share (of course) along with some highway driving vids. Should make their way onto this forum over the next week or so

Here is the latest map from CDPQ Infra, concerning the stations on the South Shore portion of the REM. You can see the station under Bassin Peel. Griffintown and Cité du Multimédia will be accessible from the Bassin Peel station.

The idea of an underwater station seems fun. (Or above water? It's a tunnel there right?)

It's supposed to be a tunnel station with exits on both sides of Peel basin.
