Well, if TNSE controls the site they could conceivably just build a temporary skywalk connection from TNS to RBCCC. Wasn't there something like that at Graham and Fort before 200 Graham was built in the early 90s?

Even if they didn't though, there would still be a skywalk connection between TNS and RBCCC (circuitous as it might be), and the two would only be a short distance apart along Carlton.

Although that said, I hope this thing gets built and we aren't faced with the typical Winnipeg unrealized phase 2.

Title changed to reflect tower 1/2. Sutton place( phase II ?) is unknown at this point.

The outdoor section is called the plaza and listed separately on the site. It also doesn't say "arena" suggesting it isn't about the area but the site specifically.

When I saw it I wondered if it was some interruption of the event space True North operated briefly on the north side of Portage hosting touring exhibits. It was not rows of chair but the only thing I could think of that would make sense. It will definitely be interesting to see what comes of that though. Winnipeg would seem to have a potential market for something like the Concert Hall but with more seating and a better backstage area for touring Broadway style shows and smaller concerts. So you then have the Burt for up to 2000 seats, the True North Square Theather for 2000-8000 seats and MTS Centre for anything for 8000. That said, not sure something needing that footprint would fit within the True North Square site.

The whole intersection of Graham and Hargrave will in fact be raised as you surmised.

^ That's fantastic. It will create a much better pedestrian environment, and even though I'm sure it won't be a woonerf because of the relatively high traffic levels on Graham and Hargrave, it'll have a bit of that feel.

More intersections should be raised. Why should cars have the smooth route and pedestrians struggle to go up and down curbs and inclines.

Curbs are there for pedestrian safety.

That's a laugh. A 6 inch curb is not going to stop a truck or car that is out of control.

No but it will stop a distracted driver from wandering onto the sidewalk and killing people. That's why they are there. Do you think curbs appear there for no reason? There are codes that require them to be there, so they are.

Woonerfs tend to use bollards, concrete planters and other such devices to protect pedestrians while also making it easier for them to get around. So it's not like pedestrians will be unprotected... if anything, the bollards probably offer more protection than a curb.

It's just at intersections and a bollard is better protection. Right now there is a small ramp at every intersection. That doesn't seem safe. And while you probably don't work for Maple Leaf Construction I will say they don't know how to build a proper curb or a proper ramp but they will have work for life in this city.

If a distracted driver wonders onto the sidewalk and kills a pedestrian I can assure you the driver will receive a $500 ticket.

This intersection will be very good. It might slow the cars down a bit but if done right the cars won't even notice the gentle ramp.

It's going to be interesting to see the transition from TNS to MTSC. I'd like to think changes will be made to the MTSC southwest entrance to enhance the transition experience so-to-speak. Hopefully will feel more like a main entrance and less like the 'back door'. Good start with the raised crossing!

^I agree, unfortunately I don't thing that it will ever be able to be any more functional then it is now; simply no room for anything else. One side goes right into the concourse, one is stairs to the Skywalk and suites. At best maybe they will make more use out of the south end of the concourse during non-event hours [lunch].

I feel like I remember hearing talk swirling, maybe 5 years ago, that they wanted to open up the main floor concourse on Graham and Donald to the street more and have concessions that are open to public during lunches, etc. Wonder if that will ever happen. Donald is such a dead zone.

Agreed there is little to no room to actually do much more functionally there, but they could enhance the look of that entrance to make it feel more like a main entrance. Add some huge Jets logos to the outside of the building or something.
