It's the phrase auto-centric that sticks in my craw. It's a planetizen-level phrase loaded with insinuations that go far beyond simple automotive retail and repair.

Taken to its logical conclusion, a bus barn on the site would be considered transit-oriented, and thus hailed as the cure for all our oil-fueled sins.

In case it's not clear, I tire of academic jargon that is just a hairs-width different than bald-faced name-calling.

At least we can all agree that anyone driving a pickup truck is obviously suffering from undersized members and that cyclists only break the laws that shouldn't apply to them anyways!

^ the article stated that the demographics who fill out the surveys are not representative of the greater population.

Internet surveys are no substitute for meaningful consultation.

A plan by cardiologist Dennis Modry to turn his $6.6-million top-of-the-bank property into a 46-unit luxury condo development won council approval Monday.

The proposal calls for six four-storey luxury condo buildings on a 3.2-hectare site along the edge of the river valley. Two dozen neighbours spoke against the project. Council debated until 10 p.m. but ultimately approved the project 12 to one.

Neighbours on either side are million-dollar single-family homes. Architect Brad Kennedy promised to move mature trees and create a 16-metre high wall of trees so thick it “will block the view both to and from the development.”

But Brander Garden residents worried about increased traffic on Whitemud Road, an enclosed development cut-off from the rest of the community, and river valley land that will forever remain private.

Are they implying that the current land is not privately owned? I didn't know the current property owner's land was for everyone's enjoyment. I'm sure other home owners on the river bank will happily open their properties for the communities enjoyment.

^^ I think the hope was the city would try to negotiate for some of the land back, but council likely realized the futility of this, as the properties further south and west would still be private.

This city council is so gung-ho to approve re-zoning there seems to be no protection for property owners anymore of what might end up being built next door.
