I think I have said this before, but this photo really illustrates it. I used to drive down Yonge Street into the city and The Bay and CIBC towers were my twin sentinals, such tall towers forming a gateway to the downtown. They were impressive landmarks. Now they are among those short base towers which provide the plinth for the new landmarks, like foothills to their mountains. When this happens, you know the city has leap-frogged itself to a new scale. Wow!
As an aside: are all you Torontonians ever worried for the day the city is nabbed for steroid abuse, and all the new towers are declared illegitimate, banned and then forcibly torn down. (just a post Olympic thought)
