I don't think it's a tourist trap area right now...but if this more beach-appropriate business located there it would seem more that way. There is nothing cheesy there at the moment in my opinion, but there are some very nice tourist attractions - not traps. I know some people think the observation wheel is tacky and WOC is cheesy to locals but not to tourists.

Would this place have palm trees? That would look really out of place in a city where they aren't native to the area as would the weird roof. I could be fine with a theme restaurant as long as it didn't stick out like a sore thumb - which this one would. I guess it's their gimmick tho.

I agree. This will be lively and fun and it definitely beats the crumbling surface parking lot that is there now.

Tacky? Sure, but what city doesn't have its share of goofiness?

East Point has Spondivits...it's a little less obnoxious but a pretty cool place that's been there for many years. I always loved Fat Tuesday's even though it was a little tacky too. You're right tho, every city has a few tacky/fun/obnoxious/whatever places.

Wow, first post on the 1000th page of the thread! And no one congratulated me? Where do I collect my prize?

I'd put Margarativille in the same category as Hooter's and Hard Rock and similar themed-type casual dining chains.

Harsh, bigstick.

I see some realtors there, but also plenty of bankers, developers, contractors, architects, etc. John Portman looks pretty distinguished to me.

The Arlo (Decatur)

Sorry about the so-so quality of the photos. I figured bad photos are better than no photos on this forum

Any chance you can post a few photos? Great to hear. Thanks !

btw, has anyone heard what GT and The Academy of Medicine will do given their fence and gate idea wasn't approved by the DRC?

DRC recommendations were to have landscaping provide the barriers, as I recall.

Great news!

They are likely trying to salvage anything of value (historic or recyclable) as well as deal with any asbestos and/or lead materials in the old structure. Once they complete the inside work, the structure will be down in a day or two!

I don't have any pics but I know there is a new small community of single family residences under construction there that will take advantage of the site's proximity to the future Beltline.

Yes, it's called "The Spoke" by Columbia ventures.

Not sure if this rendering is up to date:
