How can you have a weather thread where you can actually discuss the temps? Seems like a solution in search of a problem.

The attitude here seems to be the problem that we need to be addressing. If the need to jockey the mercury is the best way to talk about the weather, then that is the problem.

So we will have 2 weather threads going forward? how Canadian, one for those with easily hurt feelings, and the original one for the rest of us? Any one arguing about how their weather is better than another place's weather is kinda silly, as weather and climate is something one gets acclimated to, and certainly a subjective matter. I find weather above a certain temperature and below a certain temperature uncomfortable, but for some, they love being in the ranges that I despise, mostly because they are acclimatized to it.

I should note that as indicated by the change of the thread title, numbers are allowed. Jockeying with those numbers is not allowed. That is, attempting to use them to boast, gloat, crow and make outlandish claims. This is taking pride in things you had no hand in making or worse, taking pride in one's own incompetence.

Examples include:

"Spring arrives sooner in Maple Creek than in Point Pelee!"
"[My city] has more days above 30C than anywhere else!"
"[Your city] is colder than Alaska!"

Using it to help describe what you are currently experiencing is okay. Using temperatures to describe phenomena is okay.

I see nothing wrong with bragging about good weather, or talking about about bad weather.

Such sensitivity nancies around here. Weather. It happens. We all deal with it. Let us discuss it without such rules.

Some springs may arrive earlier in Maple Creek than Point Pelee... depends on the year. What's wrong with discussing it? Some years buck a trend. Anyone who gets upset because Calgary has better weather on a certain day that Fort-Fuck-Idont-care really needs to get off the internet and actually go enjoy a day in the weather they are spouting about.

Has this forum turned into a bunch of pre-teens who get so upset over weather talk that precipitated these unneeded rules about discussing weather? My weather dick is currently hotter than your weather dick.

Deadhorse, Alaska (on the Arctic Ocean, latitude over 70° North!!!) actually got up to ~ +30°C not too long ago.

(Temps unheard of this year in Calgary, for the record...)

We should most definitely look into choosing another yardstick for coldness, 'cause "as cold as Alaska" can mean you're sweating more than in the Southwest Prairies / Calgary area.

Siberia? Nope, gets hot in summer too.

And "outlandish claims" tend to get quickly debunked anyway, so I don't see why we'd need special moderator protection against those.

Highs in the mid 20's, lows in the mid-high teens, sun, sun, sun. Vancouver might be in for another little hot spell going into the weekend with temps up to the high 20's, depending where you are. Fortunately, not much in the way of humidity.

Beautiful clear day here today. However River Forecast Centre and The Edmonton Fire Department are warning about high river flows. the river is to rise 3-4 meters in 24hrs. This is due to 80-100 mm of rain that fell west of Edmonton on Monday. Monday the river in Edmonton was flowing at 300 m3/s and is now just over 1000 m3/s.

24 hours ago (10:05am Aug 23) the river level was at 3.3 meters it is now 6.1 meters (Aug 24 10:05 am).
