Thank you for posting this Hunter! I had been looking everywhere for how tall the sail was but couldn't find it anywhere. This says it's about 100ft tall, so since the roof of the building is 934ft tall, the non-spire height of the building is 1,034ft (what I consider the "true" height), taller than the US Bank Tower!

Finally got around to uploading some of my development images from the last month, 240 in total. Have 300 left to get up, still taking over 100 a week.

They can all be seen here:

Fantastic images as always Hunter. I really like the fact that AC Martin went with the white color for the spire.

So much has been said about the podium of Watermarke tower, which is unsightly (I won't say downright ugly after seeing the 🞵🞵🞵🞵 in Las Vegas). I've maintained that the owners don't really care since there is very little high rise competition in downtown. That said however, I believe that what they have now can be embellished at a fairly low cost. One idea would be instead of painting it whatever color it is today to painting it in a fashion complementing Peit Mondrian, that is with black stripes and primary colors. Or how about strategically placed metal decorative spandrels to fill in the concrete slabs, or even a fill-in with glass and maybe some back lighting for nighttime effect would work.

Very fascinating article. I'm still puzzled as to how the entire shaft of this spire 180+ feet visible) can be lit at night. Nevertheless, Hunter, thank you you young little whippersnapper.

This photo demonstrates that South Park may soon be running out of easily developable land. Yes, there are warehouses visible which can be razed, but remember that adds greatly to the cost of construction. Also consider any development south of Pico is restricted to approximately 7 stories, which I think is a huge mistake and the city planners should address that. Of course, there are parking lots within the photo and more behind buildings which are not visible. Mind you, any development east of Main st. is restricted (stupidly) to industrial use, but that's it for the area. I'm wondering how much acreage we are talking about. My guess is that the next boom will fill in these areas and much of the rest of vacant space downtown if the demand continues. And there will be further investment in the western DTLA (in which case Pico Union and Westlake will start to become very desirable areas) as well as development chipping its way east of Main. Sadly, anything east of the river will be halted by the narrow-minded and paranoid "anti-gentrifiers"

^ Since when is anything south of Pico restricted to 7 stories? There have been 2 highrises proposed south of Pico in the previous boom. They weren't built due to the economic crash, not due to zoning restrictions.

As always, great shots, Hunter!

I thought that I read that the other day. If fact, now that you mention it one of the newest seven story, stumpy, stucco shitboxes does or will occupy land that had a planned tower designed by the big NYC architect a few years ago. I read so much I couldn't possibly remember the source. I'm sorry if I am mistaken. Can any of you quickly research that so I don't think I'm too senile?

I don't think so but I guess it depends on how we interpret soon. From fig to olive and 8th to 12th there have to be over a dozen large parking lots with at least half never having had anything ever proposed.

Like the lot next to the shell station, the lot behind that on hope, the two lots north of the belasco theater, the two lots across from each other on flower/Olympic. Has anything been suggested for any of these?

It's not that big of a deal, but I found this nice higher-resolution rendering of 888 S. Hope.

Each section of the spire is perforated with circular holes, and at the base of each section, on the inside, there are sets of lights that point upwards and have enough luminosity to light up the spire as seen in the pics here:
