You're not lying. 200 inner-city condo units absorbed in edm last year, with a subdued cgy still 5x higher. Meanwhile edm was doing relatively better in job growth last yr and recently they've lost ~25,000 jobs over the past 3 months, while cgy has gained about that many. They have 1 midrise/high rise start during the past two yrs and quickly growing standing condo inventory, yet you'll continue to see recycled proposals that are "about to start" and updates on the same few projects daily. It's too bad this site has been overtaken by creepy spam bots. Good to see some people still thinking for themselves though.

^ He's got a bizarre little radar for whenever someone mentions something remotely good about Edmonton. For example, he's responding to a post from almost two weeks ago.

What a weirdo.

We've only started one started one highrise in the past 2 years? Are you serious?

And what would you say if I told you downtown Edmonton already has more people living in it than downtown Calgary?

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Downtown_Calgary

"had a population of 8,015 living in 5,121 dwellings, lower than that of downtown Edmonton and a 0.7% decrease from its 2011 population of 8,071."

also, hi everybody, thought this place could use another loyal edmontonian

What if I told you that you're quoting from wikipedia, and that quoted information is incorrect. Downtown Calgary comprises five neighbourhoods, including CBD, West End, Eau Claire, Chinatown, and East Village. The number you quoted was for the CBD only, at 1.3 km2. The combined population of those five, in 2012, was 16,600 people, not including the 22 000 in the Beltline. Also, the Beltline has thousands more people than Oliver, with thousands more units UC.

Keep in mind as well, that in the downtown area we have another 2300 units UC or recently completed (~6 months). This is much higher than Edmonton(still a respectable 1500 or so), and doesn't include the thousands of units in the Beltline, or the towers which will start construction this year in the East Village.

So just a run down...

In 2012 downtown Calgary had 16 600 people living in 2.4 km2
In 2014 downtown Edmonton had 13 100 people living in 2.3 km2

While...

In 2014 Oliver had 19 100 people living in 1.72 km2
In 2015 Beltline had 22 000 people living in 2.2 km2 (with 0.5 km2 being the Stampede Grounds)

Also, welcome to the forum! Good contributions so far!

^ So in other words, Calgary is better but fairly comparable. Calgary having better DT growth and population isn't exactly surprising.

It also means that Edmontons DT growth is not as dismal as Spring2008 makes it seem, and he has some weird vendetta against the city for some reason.

Either way it's not something worth arguing over as we are two different cities with different strengths and economic backbones.

Cgy' City Centre's aka downtown u/c condo unit count was 6,600 last fall, about 4 times higher than edm.

http://forum.skyscraperpage.com/showthread.php?t=212999

The surrounding midrise communities have seen a huge amount of development too whereas most of inner-city edm still looks like a wasteland with infill activity in most neighbourhoods far, far from the norm. Will say that overall inner-city cgy continues to see about 4 to 5 times the amount of infill as edm which is consistent with long term trends over the past decade or two, just don't have the spam bots to post about the same projects all day.

Also just noticed this message in my inbox from last week. Typical edm degenerate. I guess in edm ur considered gay if you don't eat Doritos, drive a big truck, and drink and smoke week everyday?

Thanks for the welcome guys! Been lurking for awhile. Nothing like some friendly Alberta rivalry! I guess Wikipedia needs to be updated.

Long time Edmontonian lurker here, decided to make an account because I have to ask Spring2008: Whats your weird obsession with Edmonton about? Did we break your heart? You have some kind of complex dude.

Yeah, not sure what's going on with Spring2008 as he's normal until he comes in the Canada section and sees anything about Edmonton. Then he seems to do a 180 and go off the rails. I love to tease Edmontonians as much as the next Calgarian but he seems to have an unhealthy hatred. I might be wrong but iirc he once said that he was originally from there (I think). That could explain something.

What look exactly is Toronto's skyline going for? A bunch of towers hidden behind each other? The density is nice I guess. I've gotta say though for Canada's largest city, the skyline shots from basically any angle make Toronto look un-inspiring. The fact that it doesn't have a super tall is absurd

Used to be St. Albert I think...which to be fair is probably the most Calgary-like part of the Edmonton area.

But yes...he pretty much posted the same type of stuff back then in Edmonton forums too. I don't quite get it but it's kind of amusing..I mean at least its right out there compared to the awkward backhanded/patronizing compliments and passive agressive stuff that is so common on here.

How is not having a supertall absurd? If anything it's a reflection of big businesses' expense cutting approach to increase profits in the short term. Countless tenants are continually looking to reduce their leased office space. Layoffs , outsourcing, telecommuting, and converting to "collaborative workspaces" come to mind.

Hope you reported that message. That guy has some weird issues, too.

But if you're going to use that as an example of a "typical edm degenerate" then I guess you're saying it's okay to judge all Calgarians by your shitty attitude too?

Here, let me try:

Typical cgy degenerate.
