I have a theory. With all these newer arenas popping up with loge/premium/mini suites ect. Does that put pressure on places like Anaheim who built in the 1990's to reconfigure current arenas? IMO rogers place will be the most profitable arena in the NHL with steep ticket prices and quantity of premium seats the gate revenue has got to inspire other teams to aggressively pursue other streams of gate revenue? I see PNC arena in carolina and Tampa have already added a ton of loge seats.

Further more what does this mean for Winnipeg,Boston,San jose? With no real room to build more premium seating? That's a real disadvantage

For Edmonton, why would the seats retract so far back? What sorts of configurations would be larger then a NHL rink? The Rodeo?

First time I have seen such a aggressive retract with seats for a arena.

California stadium projects move slow as mud. For a market like Anaheim just getting people in the seats is good enough.

For the dated Honda Center you start talking big renovations and you might as well blow up the place and re-build it, or heavily renovate it like MSG.

Just like the Ballpark I don't see the Ducks or that arena going any other place so maybe a big renovation is in the cards but it would be any time soon.

When was the last time we even heard of San Jose or Anaheim complaining about their dated arenas? Public money is non-existent in Cali for Stadiums so many owners just keep their mouths shut there (except in Oakland). If they don't got the cash they don't bring it up.

^^MASSIVE increase in revenue potential. I recall someone doing the math and it was between 3 and 5 times the current rink.

^Clearly for our bi-mon-mon-struck-ta-con staging. Keep in mind they want this to do rodeos, UFC, canyon jumping flaming car events, major concerts and the kitchen sink.

Yeah, in some ways the arena arms race keeps going. But is the disadvantage of teams with older, smaller rinks that pronounced so as to justify the immense cost of a new building? I have my doubts. Teams that pay for their own buildings look at it a lot differently than the Oilers do.

My question is what happens when MTS centre and SAP can't keep up to the premium seating requirements of the NHL? Ticket prices rise to compensate? I can't see true north building a new arena within the next 30 years.

In honda centers case it's a little different you have 20,000 seats where 17,000 might be needed for the ducks. So there is room to convert seating into loge areas like the hurricanes and Lighting have done. I really don't think the renovation would be that extensive. Theirs a whole section of seats below the suites about 5-6 rows that could be converted into loge boxes/ premium seating.

This is what the hurricanes have done

MTS Centre can be expanded but it would be somewhat expensive. When the arena was built True North mentioned that you can build an overhang onto Hargrave street which requires turning the street to a 1 lane tunnel for it's portion alongside the Arena.

No sorry that's BS TN has been solid on the fact that the MTSC couldn't be physically expanded and that was 3-4 year before the jets returned. They have said multiple times they would attempt to add seats to the building but they cant raise the roof on the place. The only way to add seats is to hang them off the trusses the same way they did the press box which would most likely be more loge seats for multiple reasons.

I think MTS Centre could add some sort of lodge seating at the opposite side of the arena from the press box similar to the recent renovations at Madison Square Garden in NYC:

http://hfboards.hockeysfuture.com/showthread.php?t=1942287&page=27

the cost of a renovation like this would be far more feasible than replacing MTS centre in 20-30 years

There are some tentative rumours/thoughts that the new owners of the Pats may bring at least a proposal/idea forward about putting an arena in the old rail yards between downtown and the warehouse district. Given that the stadium is just finishing up, it may be a dead in the water kind of thing, but I guess it will all depend on what put on the table (collectively, their pockets are quite deep), if it gets that far. Could be interesting.

Anything is possible. Enough money and engineers can do almost anything. Raising the roof and over hanging seats ove the streets is possible, but the costs would out weigh the benefits.

It depends. They wouldn't raise the roof to put in P7 cheap seats, but I'm sure TNSE has noticed that Edmonton appears to be convincing people to shell out 10K a ticket to sit at the end of the upper deck.

So imagine a MSG-type loge with 1,000 seats at $10K a pop. Ten million bucks a year (assuming you can find someone to buy them, which certainly isn't a given in this market). I'm not a finance guy so I'm not sure what the maximum construction cost would be to justify that amount of revenue, but I wouldn't necessarily dismiss it out of hand.

Yeah one thing I can Guarantee you true north is done with cheap seats. If they are spending 2-5 Million on another seating area it's for pricey premium seats. I think loge is the best bet. Requires less amenities up top. The one thing that would be hard to swallow for me is having to use the 300's concourse as a loge seat holder but the existing loge holders seem to make it work. I suppose you could have some drink stands and vendors up there but if you want to use the washroom youre pretty much guaranteed to have to use the 300's washrooms
